RESULTS 2008

Qualifying Matches 2008
Boddington Reservoir  19th April       (60 Pegs)
Section Winners - Section A to F from Left to Right
Section Winners A-F (Left to Right)

The first Qualifier in the 2008 British Waterways Still Water Championship at Boddington Reservoir was greeted a bitter easterly gale, making the day very difficult for the 58 anglers who took part. The current form of the fishery has been disappointing to say the least but with only 6 section winners to qualify from each round, competition was fierce.

C section winner Neil Russell wins luckiest git of the day, let me explain,. Neil cast out after landing his second fish, sunk his line and place the rod on the rest Now he turned his head for no more than a couple of seconds and SPLASH!!! he turn around a see his rod gliding across the lake a 20 MPH. He proceeded to cast his other rod at the run away tackle with no joy. After about 45 minutes of "B****cks " & "S**t  that's £300 I've lost" a shout from 7 pegs up came towards his peg "Anyone lost a rod?" was the cry. The look of joy on his face when he returned with rod and real in tact was a picture, My reply to him was "that's lucky mate" to which he replied" yeh, but i lost the fish"  there's just no pleasing some people

Drayton Reservoir 17th May   (60 Pegs)

The second round of the British Waterways Stillwater Champs was fished at the superb Drayton Reservoir in a cool northerly breeze, with expectations high for potential big weights the 60 anglers headed of to their pegs. A section winner Shawn Walton amassed 70lb 4oz of carp from a very hard section.

B section winner Phil Copley drew the legendary 34H on the Boards, Phil fished the baggin Wag taking carp to double figures for 105lb 13oz. C section winner Fred Coxon had an impressive 204lb 5oz, but Fred who had already qualified  at Boddingtons a month earlier made way for his sponsor Phil Ringer, who qualified by default with 195lb. Kobra Feeders Rod Dave Brown amassed the top weight on the day with 239lb 5oz on the baggin Wag securing a place in the final from D section. E Section also produced poor sport but Jeff Taylor caught 33lb 10oz giving him enough to win the section. F section winner Geoff Ringer took the honours from another poor section with 2 fish for 24lb 9oz.

There are still a few places left for the remaining qualifiers so if you fancy your chances of winning  £5,000  then book in before the places are all gone.

Earlswood Lakes (Engine) 7th June (60 Pegs)

After the massive weights reported the weekend pria to the match, the expectations were very high at Earlswood, but as luck would have it mother nature wrote another story of woe for the 60 Anglers attending the 3rd Qualifier. Pellet waggler was the order of the day with most anglers catching at least a few fish, with A & F sections being the least productive on the day. Although the results show a large number of DNW's but this is not a reflection on the number of fish actually caught on the day.

Stockton 9th August (40 Pegs)

The Great British summer weather once again greeted anglers. Persistent rain and a cold driving wind for most of the match. All anglers caught fish, but the section winners where clearly ahead of the rest in their section.

Mainly carp were caught along with a number of good chub and tench. The carp were of a large average size with many topping 8lb. A number of larger fish were also lost. Most anglers including all the section winners adopted the method feeder tactics with soft micro pellets and either hair rigged pellet or boilie being the choice of hook bait.

Just one more qualifying round left at BW Makins fishery on 30th August 2008 being held across all pools on phase 1. The Final and 1st prize of £5000 will be held at BW Makins fishery on 20th September 2008 on Phase 1, Lake 2 and Lake 4.
