Welcome to Willowcroft |
Willowcroft Fishery has 12 Lakes for fishing, the rest are all for fish breeding and rearing. [See WIllowcroft's own website for full details] Of the 12 lakes there are six rectangular lakes currently called Canal 1, Canal 2 and Canal 3 and so on, these are our match lakes. The first three lakes contain F2 carp that we bred ourselves. These are all mirror-carp hybrids and at the moment average 4lb+, but some are already approaching 10lb
.
Mark Pollard [Fox Dynamite] recently recommended Willowcroft in Advance Pole Fishing as
'somewhere to home your Bagging skills' - and with plenty of Chunky Carp on offer like this F2 Mirror-Carp, who would argue?
The other 3 match lakes [Canal 3,4 & 5] contain F1 carp in their thousands, these will provide fantastic match action both in Summer and Winter months. The Match 'Canals' are about 20 metres wide and contain 20 pegs each; all spaced 9 metres apart.
The other six lakes are designed for pleasure anglers or specimen anglers. The 'Speci' pool (Six Islands Lake) has carp to over 40lb and catfish to well over 60lb!! The Granddad Lake is stocked with 'Old-Fashioned' fish like Roach, Perch, Gudgeon, Chub and Pike. We also have a like designed as a safe lake for Under 16's to fish - this is outside the new Cafe so anyone can keep an eye on them, this lake is Called Cafe Lake.

Mark Pollards Willowcroft Approach:
My rig is a typical commercial-fishery right with a 5x8 Fox MP4 on 0.16mm Micro Plus+ line and a size 16 Fox Series 2 hook. Elastic is a slightly softer Fox Red Fluro, rated to about 14+. Expect plenty of fish moving in the margins and have rigs made for the middle and down the edge.
Start down the edge feeding half a pot of mixed pellets on each line; it doesn't take long for the fish to find the feed and expect a few swirls after feeding during the more active months. Keep the feed going in, a full Toss-Pot should be about right.
The fish aren't to fussed about anything at the moment - they're simply Pellet eating machines! |
PARKING: At the moment Willowcroft only has one large car park but another car park will soon appear by the new cafe. On the six match lakes you can park your car behind your peg, meaning the furthest you will walk will be about three metres! |
