Leigh Hemsley

I’m Leigh Hemsley and live in Spalding Lincolnshire and I have lived in the area all his life, I was born in Louth north Lincolnshire where my parents own a pub, and it was there my passion for fishing began, when at the age of six one of the customers took me to a local reservoir pike fishing, from there I was hooked for life and have never looked back.

I started off bream fishing in the summer turning to pike in the winter, before moving on to carp full time in 1986. I moved to Spalding in 1989 and this is where a couple of years later my love for river carping began. 99% of my fishing is done for carp travelling all over the country and abroad to such places as France and South Africa, which was were me and my very understanding wife Maria got married with the help of my friends form African gold carp adventures.

I caught my first double of 13lb in 1986 from the then famous Lincolnshire lido, and my first 20+ later that same year at Waveney Valley Lake’s in Norfolk. This venue also produced my first 30 at 34lb 4oz the famous big Scale in 1998, I then passed the magical 40lb barrier in 2007 (twice).Recent years have seen me target local rivers for some very elusive big carp which I have landed to 36lb 8oz.

During my angling career I have been lucky to land some fantastic fish with Pb’s of a Mirror carp 40lb 6oz, Common carp 40lb 5oz Pike 32lb 12oz (it bottomed out my old 32lb 12oz Avon scales) Grass carp 33lb 0oz, Bream 16lb 4oz, Tench 10lb 5oz & male Tench of 7lb 12oz, Catfish 55lb 8oz, Chub 5lb 4oz (off the surface), Perch 4lb12oz and an Eel 5lb 14oz.

I know spend my spare time travelling around the country demonstrating how to roll your own boilies at the Nash Baits exhibitions and Road shows across the country. I’m also involved in carp fishing coaching working with under privileged kids of all ages which gives me a great deal of satisfaction giving back to the sport that has given me so much.
