Boddington RodMasters 2008
Match 1 - 20th April 2008
On yet another damp, cold miserable day, 62 anglers fish a wind swept Boddington in this the first Rod Masters Qualifier. Anglers in all sections found Fish exceptionally hard to find, with 3 - 4 fish enough to win most sections.
However, G section in the bird sanctuary produced the better sport with the top 4 anglers coming from this section. Match winner Lance Chambers fished the Method at distance to catch 14 fish for 66lb 12oz from peg 103. In second place was Lee Taylor [PureHempBait] who also fished the method at distance, Lee landed 12 fish for 54lb 4oz from peg 105. Third placed Terry Winston had 34lb 2oz on the Method from peg 102 & in 4th place saw Mark Williams [APF] take carp on the Method for 32lb from peg 98.

The second Qualifier for the Boddington's Rodmaster 2008 was fished in superb conditions for the first time this year. With Temperatures expected to reach the lower 20's and a steady north westerly wind, things where looking very good.
Unfortunately the sport was yet again very hard for half of the field, with A to C sections fishing below par, it was a simple case of draw above peg 75 and you were on the fish below 74 and the anglers found the odd pockets of fish that were constantly on the move.

Overall winner on the day Dave Brown caught steadily from peg 105 all day on the Method Feeder at 30 yds. Second was Trevor Jeans who also found the method feeder to be the winning formula from peg 102 and in third place on peg 86 was Matt Grant who found the Pellet wag at 30 yards was the best approach.

With only 23 places left for the final, the 3rd Rodmasters qualifier was a hard fought affair, with Boddingtons finally rising to the occasion by producing the best sport of the year so far.
Winner on the day Matt Grant put in a superb performance on the method feeder, taking 38 fish to 8lb to secure top spot. First time lucky was the case for Les Sylvester, the midlands based rod loose fed pellet at 40yds and fished the straight lead with pellet on the hair to secure his place in the final.
Third overall was Joff Rogers, the Maggots End backed angler to good advantage of good draw to catch 27 fish on the straight lead with pellet as his chosen hook bait. In 4th place was Ian Hutton, Ian caught 33 fish on the method feeder and pellet waggler at 35yds to guarantee his place in the final on his first visit.
The Tortoise and the Thorpie!
By far the best moment of the match was when Dave Rawlins on peg 58 who was having major difficulty playing a fish in his own or several other pegs for that matter, took a barrage of abuse from Gary Thorpe on peg 59, cries of "stop playing it like a Fairy" and "Do ya Wanna Sit here Dave???" could be heard from 15 pegs away.
Now 5 minutes into the battle Mr Thorpe's rod flew round and within a minute his fish was under the rod tip, whilst Dave's fish was no where to be seen " That's how ya get em in" was his cry as he continued to mock Poor Dave, but the final laugh went to Dave, as Mr Thorpe went to land his fish the hook pulled just as he picked up his landing net, this was at exactly the same time that Dave landed his fish, a serious case of "The Tortoise and the Hair" comes to mind. [at no point did Thorpie take any abuse over this ] LOL
A full list of qualifiers & match day information is now available on line, any angler who has qualified and not booked in by 10/8/2008 will loose their place in the final and be replaced by a default qualifier. I have no choice but to bring this rule into effect to guarantee a full 70 peg final
