Norman Powers - on his way to 93lb from Peg 93! The weather yet again was a major factor in the below par form of Boddington Reservoir for the Rodmasters Final 2008. This years form book had shown that a high peg number was required to stand any reasonable chance of getting into the top spots, and with plenty of Cash and Tackle prizes at stake the draw was a very tense affair. The match started with all sections making slow progress with small pockets of fish showing in the first hour. Early leaders, Norman & Cristan Powers [Kobra Feeders] on pegs 92 & 93 respectively, produced a steady run of fish, and at the end of the second hour they had put enough fish in the net for a substantial advantage that meant the chasing pack would have plenty to do in the remain 3 hours if either or both Kobra Feeders backed angers were to be caught. After the third hour word had spread that Ian Pretty on peg 84 had started to catch up with a solid hour on the method, Ian's total at this time was an estimated 14 fish and a serious challenge to the Norman & Cristan. Another surprise was that on unfenced peg 62, Glen Greesley [Greys/Barnsley Bait Company] had started to take Carp at a rate of one a bung on the method feeder. Glen was fishing at long range and at this time had made the match a 4 horse race. Cristan Powers into a few fish on Peg 92 At the conclusion of the 4th hour a major shift in the wind had resulted in a change of anglers fortunes, Terry Winstone [Maggots End] on peg 83 had started building a steady run of fish on the Pellet Wag, Trevor Wise [Dynamite Baits] had also increased his catch rate from peg 85 on the Method Feeder - as did Omer Patel [Kobra Feeders] on Peg 55 & Les Sylvester [Greys/Barnsley Bait Company] on highly fancied peg 100. Moreover, with the earlier leaders catch rates slowing down, there were now a total of 7 anglers fighting for the top 4 places; the last hour was to prove critical for all competitors chasing both the main frame and the minor section places [worth £100 each plus tackle] The last hour witnessed an impressive return for Terry Winstone who produced no fewer than 9 fish on the pellet wag, and looked sure favourite to win the top Prize. Glen Greesley had continued to find fish when anglers around him still struggled for bites and looked best placed to push Terry for the eventual 'Boddington Rod Masters 2008' Title. Elsewhere Les Sylvester, Cristan Powers , Norman Powers and Omer Patel had all continued their contention for the top 'Frame' places as the final horn sounded the "all out". The weigh in team soon managed to get all the weights recorded and fish returned and as predicted sections F & G [Pegs 81 - 100] had produced the most consistent sport, with the average weight per angler in F section being 86lb 14oz. Match Winner Terry Winstone - 156lb 8oz The results confirmed that Terry's last hour had assisted in a winning return of 156lb 8oz ahead of Glen Greesley's 120lb for runners up spot. A great finish to a series that has proven to be popular with the anglers and will act as a pilot for future events. Next years series has already been attracting potential sponsors and the forthcoming Silver Masters also looks set to be a success [book early to avoid disappointment!] Final Results 1st - Terry Winstone [Maggots End] 156lb 08oz A - Barry Earnshaw [G.O.T Baits] 28lb 10oz B - Barry Mason [Ringer Baits} 37lb 07oz D - Matt Grant [By Default] 57lb F - Trevor Wyse [Dynamite Baits] 84lb 08oz G - Norman Powers [ Kobra Feeders] 93lb Anglers who fished = 63 Pools £20.00 = £1260.00 Total Paid out on the Day = £2,470 We would like to say a personal thank you to ALL the Rodmasters 2008 Sponsors - Steve Cole at FOX Match, Henry Braham at Braham & Murray Pure Hemp Bait, Stewart & Alan Millar at Harrisons Tackle Lincoln, Omer Patel at Kobra Feeders, Andrew Race at Reuben Heaton & Trevor Price at G.O.T Baits, you advice and support has been priceless.
