Behind The Rods

By Bill Cottam

Bill Cottam may not be a name that is instantly recognised by newer anglers to the sport, but the man who founded bait giants, Nutrabaits many moons ago, is held in high regards to those that have been around the sport for a while. With such classic and legendary baits coming out of the Nutrabaits stable like BFM, Hi-Nu-Val, Trigga, etc, the names of Bill Cottam and Nutrabaits are etched in the annals of carp angling history already, even though the company is still producing timeless and successful baits.

When it was announced a couple of years back that Bill was to write a book that detailed his angling career both in the UK and in Europe, many people took notice. "Behind The Rods" took Bill 6 years to complete and details Bill's angling life from where he started out on the small ponds in Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire through to the waters on the Continent where he has landed some of the largest and most sought after fish in the World on his travels.

As you would expect from a lad from Bill's background, the book is written with no airs or graces and details the highs and lows from when he was at school, first job and through to entering the bait game and building Nutrabaits.

The book has everything that a good book should do; humour, the atmosphere of angling and the success and disasters that every long session angler will experience at least once in their lives. Venues such as Fishabil, Graviers and Rainbow Lake are covered within the pages.

The presentation of the book itself has been collated and put together to the highest quality, with every page of the 308 in the book awaiting the reader turning over to see what happens next.

I have read "Behind The Rods" twice now and thoroughly enjoyed reading the page. The chapter alone on how Bill built Nutrabaits up from nothing is worth the cover price of £25 + £3 P&P.

"Behind The Rods" is a worthy addition to every carp anglers library, even if you go back to it when you are planning a trip to one of the many continental venues that are detailed within the covers. The book contains a significant amount of previously unpublished material as well as a lot of full colour, high quality photographs.
