Premier Baits Matrix Plus
Kent based, Premier Baits have been a major player in the bait industry for many years, and were at the forefront of the fishmeal boom way back in the era were the Darenth Valley fisheries were going head-to-head with the big name venues in the Colne Valley. Over the years, anglers have either stuck firmly with the baits from Premier Baits or wandered to new companies in the hope that the baits they have moved onto are going to be as effective as what they were originally using.
With the Matrix Plus, Premier Baits took their ultra-successful Matrix base mix, that is a blend of the very best fishmeals, milk proteins and fish extracts, combined with high levels of the proven big carp attractor Green Lipped Mussell extract along with Betaine Complex and vitamin supplements, and added a fruity twist.
The fruity twist applied to the Matrix Plus is not just to add as an additional label, but has ben combined by the bait rollers to compliment the proven Matrix flavour without any of the detrimental pit falls that can occur when blending flavours or attractors. A lot of work has gone into adjusting the Matrix base mix to accept the blended flavour for maximum attraction and longetivity.
When combined, the whole Matrix Plus package breaks down to be a highly nutritional food source along with attractiveness to the fish that does not provoke fear, and many anglers during the field testing stanges found that the more the bait was applied to the correct areas, the more the fish readily accepted it as part of their main food source.
In recent years, Premier Baits have once again risen up the bait industry ladder with several of their mixes completely taking waters apart all over the country.
Upon handling a few baits from a random bag selected from the bait given to us for the review, it is evident immediately that the bait has not been boiled to the point of denaturing the goodness in the bait. The baits break open under pressure between thumb and finger and are easily broken up into small pieces without feeling sticky or clumping together. During the newly introduced tank test with the small carp that UKMA have in a tank, a single crumbled 16mm shelf life Matrix Plus boilie, drew an almost immediate feeding response from the fish, which had them ripping up the gravel in the bottom of the tank to get at the particles of boilie crumb that they were fed. This was done in a darkened room with the lights off so they could not see the bait being put into the tank. Over a couple of days, the fish were really switching on to the Matrix Plus and were moving around the tank as soon as the crumb was droped in. Only a couple of the other baits that UKMA have tried in the tank since the fish were introduced have provoked as strong of a reaction.
The shelf life baits look to have very little or no preservative in them at all, and unlike some other shelf life baits are quite soft. You would not know that the shelf life baits, were actually shelf life baits, without looking at the label - the freezer baits are identical! The label on the bags state that they are short term shelf life, and upon opening the bag, we recommend that they are used and kept in the same way as the freezer baits would.

To compliment the Matrix Plus boilies, Premier have also developed Pop-Ups, Combi Pellets and Bait Soak to give the angler the best chance of making the most out of the bait. The pop-ups hold a de-facto Chod rig up for over 24 hours, so the angler can be confident that their rig is giving the optimum presentation after a prolonged spell in the water.
The Matrix Plus range of baits are available in sizes 14mm to 24mm in 2mm increments, and available direct from the Premier Baits website. Make sure that you check out the bait deals that Premier Baits offer on quantity orders as you can save yourself a LOT of money by buying in bulk.
Overall, the Matrix Plus ticks every box that any carp angler would be looking at with regards to buying bait. UKMA would have no problems at all using the Matrix Plus all year round on any venue from your local runs water through to the low stock inland seas, with the uptmost confidence.
