Premier Baits Quad

Kent based, Premier Baits have been a major player in the bait industry for many years, and were at the forefront of the fishmeal boom way back in the era were the Darenth Valley fisheries were going head-to-head with the big name venues in the Colne Valley. Over the years, anglers have either stuck firmly with the baits from Premier Baits or wandered to new companies in the hope that the baits they have moved onto are going to be as effective as what they were originally using.

The Quad is one of Premier Baits flagship baits and a very under-rated bait indeed when compared to others that have a following. Most of the anglers that are on the Quad are quite secretive about the bait they are using as it is very effective indeed and outfishing other baits on most of the waters that it is being used on.

The Quad gets its name from that it has been developed to be effective in all four seasons of the year without any tweaking required of the base mix or attractor levels.

The Quad is one of the new era of baits that contain no fishmeals or birdfoods, and is made up of a mix that contains high levels of squid meal powder (which is very high in protein), tiger nut meal and also milk & fish proteins. The nutritional value of this bait is one of the highest that is available as a commercially rolled bait. Premier Baits have also incorporated a unique feed inducing blend of attractors that is not available to any other bait manufacturer. The natural brown colour of the bait looks like a washed out darker bait, so if your water is used to seeing large quantities of dark brown baits, Quad will give you an edge if the fish are waiting for baits to become washed out before readily accepting them as a safe meal. The pop-ups we were sent have a slightly lighter colour to them which is something that I personally liked. The colour difference is very subtle indeed and is unlikely to spook fish away.

The Quad has a flavour signature that resembles a mix between an Asian spice, dark brown Caramel and Quality Street Coffee Cremes - which reminds me of a bait from my past (although I just cannot put my finger on the name of it!!!). The flavour levels have been kept at sensible levels to be both instant and long term.

As with all baits that come through the UKMA office, the tank test with the two carp that we have in a tank, showed that the fish were straight onto the crumbed bait when introduced into the tank in darkness. To see if the fish were sight feeding, we also introduced some of their usual food at the other end of the tank at the same time, and it was the Quad that they went to first, before moving to the other end of the tank for almost an hour before actually picking up pieces of the normal food. Even after both foods were eaten, the fish returned to the end of the tank where the Quad had been put in and were literally ripping up the gravel on the bottom to try to find any remaining crumbs! This is something that we have only seen with literally 3 of the baits that have been introduced to them.

We were also sent the matching bait dip, pop-ups and combi pellets to give the bait a good thorough testing. The Combi pellets are literally a blend of pellets that match the bait that you are using them with. The sizes of pellets in the blend range from micro through to 11mm in size, giving the fish a variety to feast upon as well as differing breakdown times in the water (the larger the pellet, the longer the breakdown time). Upon feeding a few of the smaller pellets to the tank carp (which are not used to feeding on pellets), it took them a few minutes to realise that the pellets were food, but once on them, they literally were mouthing the pellets until there was nothing left.

All in all, we cannot find fault with the Quad. The freezer baits were soft enough to be squeezed between thumb and finger easily but still resilient enough to be able to stay on the hair for well over 72 hours before starting to break down (smaller fish pecking away at the baits will break them down quicker) and the baits were as round as round can get. This has now given us a dilemma to what baits we are going to use now on our target venues due to I had made my mind up to use the Matrix Plus on my main target water (which sees a lot of other baits and the fish are starting to spook away from these baits), but now after seeing the Quad, I cannot decide!

Quad Catch Reports

Premier Baits also sent over a couple of catch reports and pictures of recent fish caught using the Quad boilies.

First up is Premier Baits consultant, Neil Warner (left below) who has just broken the lake record at Les Teillatts – an 81lb 12oz Common, caught on Premier Baits Quad Boilies. He added a 50lb+ Common and a large Cat for his weeks tally. This breaks his PB 74lb Common from the same venue, that he caught last year on a Premier Baits Boilie.

The second is a 44lb 2oz Northants Common caught again on the Quad by Brian Harris (right below)
