Premier Baits - Make Your Own Bait Service

After having a good look at the Premier Baits Quad and Matrix Plus, we decided to do a bit of bank side research into other products from the company that other grass roots anglers had used. After walking around a few of the larger syndicated water in my local area and after chatting to numerous anglers bank side. This drew my attention to the Premier Baits "Make Your Own" service.

On my travels I had met several anglers who believed that producing your own unique twists on conventional flavours will conclusively produce outstanding results on pressured or harder venues. By adding different flavours, blends and colours to your bait, this can definitely give you the edge over other anglers using mass produced baits when in search of that special creature from beneath.

So with my formula written down I visited the Premier Baits website and headed straight for the on-line “Make You Own” bait service. Premier offer the angler the chance to create a complete food group in your own unique flavour. You can have rolled baits, hardened hook baits, wafters, pellets and pop-ups. You can also have a liquid soak made to boost or stimulate your feed or hook baits.

I decided to have my baits fresh or freezer baits as they are more commonly referred to. I opted for 10kg of the 14-18mm barrels rolled using a profruit basemix. To this I added the three flavours I had chosen, which is the maximum you are permitted. Then all you need to do is select your chosen oil and additional additive and you are ready to roll (excuse the pun)  

So I decided to have a go at designing my own hook baits and pop ups, based around the classic N-Butyric Acid Pineapple Boilie, which has been a personal favourite of mine for some time now. To make my bait unique, I played around and added an underlying flavour which would give my bait a slightly fruiter after smell and make the bait just that little bit different.

There are many of you out there who like to keep things close to your chest when it comes to your baits, the ingredients and the flavours that go into them, keeping your little secrets away from your angling nemesis is matter of life or death to some of us. I for one was a little daunted by the amount of flavours, oils, basemixes and additives that are available, what goes with what? What doesn’t work? All these and the many other questions had been answered by the two "rolling machines" at Premier Baits whom are better know as Steve and Tony. They talked me through the whole process ensuring my flavours, additives and basemix would all perform perfectly.

Order placed and paid for; once this is done you receive a date for delivery and receipt for your payment. Once your bait is ready for delivery you get an email notifying you of the delivery date and full tracking information from the couriers, which I found to be exceptionally useful especially if the bait being delivered is fresh and needs to be in a freezer as soon as possible.

I was pleasantly surprised at the average period from order to delivery for a custom rolled bait from Premier to be only seven (yes 7) working days, which is as good as, if not better than many companies on there stock items. So with my barrels and pop-ups in hand, the only thing left to do was get out on the bank and put my own bait flavour to the test and see if it worked.

First session with any new bait is a nervous affair for any angler, your confidence in any bait you use only comes from the baits performance and results whilst in the water. So after only 14 hrs in the water and a superb 27lb 11oz common already to its name, first time out on one of my favourite waters and my personal best venue common was on the bank, I was well happy, wouldn’t you be?
