First Impressions

When it comes to hookbaits, the choices available could blow the minds of even the most experienced of anglers. With literally hundreds of companies providing us with almost any flavour, colour, size, shape that we could dream up, it’s easy to see why it can be so confusing.

I’m sure that most bait out there will catch you carp granted, but sometimes you’ll come across something that little bit special. Proper Job Pop Ups are just that! When they were first sent through to me from the UKMA Office I had no recollection of what this company was about, or what, if anything, stood them apart from the rest, so I had a play with Google and this is what I found out.

The man behind the company is big fish angler Kevin Heal, who has over 40 years of angling experience to his name, and has also fished many of our high profile waters over the years including the mighty Wraysbury, and also the much loved Savay, so its fair to say that this man knows what he wants when it comes to confidence in baits.

On opening the tubs my first impressions were that they were well rolled, the colours were vibrant and eye catching, the aromas were Moorish and very ‘carpy’, but above all, it was the texture and rock hard density of these superb Pop Ups baits that stood out. We found them perfect for hair rigs or for tying onto your favorite rig and will remain popped up all night long and then some.

Delving further into the company’s profile, I decided on checking the website to see what the widely unknown company is aiming to achieve and to say I was amazed would be an understatement! Proper Job Pop Ups go through two stringent tests, which are designed to prove the unbelievable performance achievable from this hi-spec bait range.

The water pressure test goes into detail about different sized Proper Job Pop Ups being used at various depths and their changes in buoyancy over a set period of time at such depths, with results clearly showing that you can be guaranteed that PJPU’s will still be popped up proud for up to 7 days later, down to depths as deep as 60ft! An impressive statistic indeed.

There are also a wide range of sizes, 11mm, 13mm or 15mm standard round boilies, or you could go for the barrel shape to be different. A little edge that they have also started producing are what they call ‘tips’, a very small barrel shaped pop up (11mm long by 7mm wide) that are perfect for adding to your favourite bottom bait boilie fished snowman style.
