Quest Baits
Ghurkka Spice Part 2

On The Bank Test

As you may recall, UKMA reviewed this latest offering from Nottinghamshire based Quest Baits about 2 months ago. We have finally got a chance to get out on the bank and put this very spicy bait through its paces to hopefully find out exactly what all the fuss was about. With big fish catches being reported over the past 4 to 5 weeks and these reports coming from numerous different venues up and down the country, we were expecting exciting things from the Ghurkka Spice and we were not to be disappointed, here’s how we got on.

I was invited to fish a private plot on Waveney Valley C Lake by angling companion and friend Mark Sadler. We arrived on a very warm and sunny Easter Sunday afternoon with a cooling North Easterly wind blowing across us from left to right, into our right margin. With the swim being pressured for the previous week, we knew things weren’t going to be easy but we set out our stalls and got our rods ready for the potential action that could be waiting for use from the creatures that reside in this superb venue.

To try and establish the productivity of the Ghurkka Spice, we decided to each have a rod out using tried and tested bait and on our second rods we would use the Ghurkka Spice. I boated out a small sample of about thirty 10mm boillies with six 15mm boillies broken into quarters to try and keep the fish guessing. I opted for a 15mm bottom bait tipped with a 15mm Ghurkka Spice Yellow Pop Up to try and make my hook bait settle on top of the remains of the winter chod which was in abundance in all areas we tried to present our baited rigs.

Once the boat was back on the bank, my alarm that was monitoring the potentials of activity around the Ghurkka Spice violently screamed off to the charge of a very angry creature. After being run a merry dance through numerous small but annoying debris snags found underneath the far bank overhanging trees. I finally managed to get the beast under my rod tip and finally under control. I had a feeling it was a nice fish when I first connected with it and when I finally got this stunning creature on the weigh bar, I was chuffed to see the Reuben’s rock round to 28lbs 12oz.

Pretty impressive for a new bait but this was only the start of what turned out to be a mad half hour. Mark sent out his first rod loaded with Ghurkka Spice to a close in margin feature and no quicker had the rod settled on the rest and the indicator had been attached when all hell broke loose. Mark bent into another good sized fish that yet again found it hard to resist the aroma of the Ghurkka Spice. Mark carefully played the fish to the net and placed a stunning mid twenty on the unhooking mat. Not bad, two rods out and two twenties on the bank.

Final Thoughts

I’m a fond believer that you will catch on any bait you have confidence in and after only 1 hour on the bank with Quest Baits Ghurkka Spice, my confidence in this product is very high to say the least. For some unknown reason this very aromatic bait has developed a reputation for catching twenties and thirties on it’s first outing all over the country. I personally know of five totally different types of venue where the Ghurkka Spice has already established a reputation for producing the goods on days when nothing else will work. A top quality bait system that works on all types of waters, plus it will catch in all weathers and seasons, well worth a look if you’re in the market for something different to give you an edge.
