First Impressions

Over the past three years or so, Sonubaits have build a more than respectable reputation for high quality and good value for money baits, with some of the countries top match and specimen anglers already taking advantage of the impressive ranges of products.  So when we received the word about a whole new range of products being released, we made the usual phone call to Ian Day at Sonubaits and he agreed to send down a selection of all new for 2010 Carp & Barbel Range for usual UKMA close scrutiny

The new range is specifically designed to satisfy the requirements of the specialist and specimen anglers and consists of Hookbait Pellets, Paste and Liquid Enhancers and all are available in three very pungent flavours which are Hemp & Halibut, Hemp & Cheesy Garlic and Hemp & Spicy Sausage. To complete the set, Sonubaits have added the all new Elliptical feed pellet which are available in 4 different sizes to suit most, if not all angling situations and feeding methods.

Barbel & Carp Hookbait Pellets RRP £2.99

The Hookbait Pellet is a bait that can be perfectly presented either directly on the hook or in the conventional manner, on a hair rig. They average 11mm in size and have a very high oil content which produces a large amount of leakage when in the water.

They are soft enough to hair rig without the need to drill yet still have the strength to stay on the hair even in heavy fast flowing waters. These original hook baits have already established a reputation on the rivers Severn and Teme as a proven big Barbel and Chub bait.

TOP TIP – Try cutting the Pellets in half to create an alternative presentation. This can prove devastating on pressured venues where the fish have become accustomed to conventional bait shapes and presentations. This will also greatly increase the flavour leakage into your swim.

Barbel & Carp Paste (170gr Pot) RRP £2.99

This soft, pliable paste is designed for moulding around hook baits to increase their immediate attraction. Once submerged the paste dissolves slowly producing an instant attraction that is designed to draw fish up stream into your baited area.

The Paste has also proven a worthy food source on still waters, with numerous huge carp, bream & tench already falling to this adaptable  When you want a high oil bait trail in your swim, full of protein and flavour, then the Sonubaits Barbel & Carp Paste is well worth having a look at.

TOP TIP - For fast flowing water simply add a thicker layer of paste as this will release more flavour into the swim over a longer period of time. This is also a sure fire way of ensuring you don’t over feed your swim and spook off any over cautious or easily spooked fish.

Barbel & Carp Liquid Enhancers RRP £2.99

These Pungent Oil based liquids are designed to make any particle or ground bait you choose to use work perfectly along side the Pellet and Paste.

As with all oil based liquids, the Sonubaits Liquid enhancers are totally PVA friendly and will extend the time a hard pellet hook bait can be left in the water. This is made possible by the Oil slowing down the penetration of the water into the pellet and greatly increasing the pellets dissolving time, which can be critical when you are waiting for your bites on those really hard sessions.

TOP TIP – By using the Liquid Enhancers as a glug and flavouring Corn, Luncheon Meat, Pellet or even boillies, you give yourself a selection of baits that have their own distinctive flavour. Don’t be scared to experiment and try mixing the flavours to create an aroma that is totally unique.

Barbel & Carp Elliptical Feed Pellets RRP £3.99

Elliptical Pellets are elongated, oval shaped pellets that are designed to offer the angler an alterative from the normal cylindrically shaped feed pellets many species have become accustomed to and associate with danger.

The Elliptical Feed Pellet have a high oil and protein content and are perfect for all PVA bag work, alternatively when soaked and softened in water they can be used through a feeder.

TOP TIP – The larger sized Elliptical Pellets can be used as your chosen hook bait in numerous ways. You can use then in a bait band, drilled and hair rigged, they can be lassoed and last but not least, try gluing them back to back on a hair rig, the options are endless.

Final Thoughts

Sonubaits have used some new materials and production processes that have produced a range of products that are just that little bit different from the normal offering in the Barbel and carp categories. Even the packaging chosen for the Liquid Enhancers offers something slightly different. The rectangular bottle used for storing the liquids in have an original half turn screw thread system, which makes accessing the fluids inside a simple task ands re-sealing the bottle just as simple.

Ian Day and the team of anglers at Sonubaits have put together a comprehensive bait range that should appeal to any angler looking for a complete Barbel & Carp range designed for big fish on both still and moving water systems. On first impressions I have to say the attention to detail on the whole range is top class, with all the product looking and smelling every inch like a big fish baits should, I personally can’t wait to get them on the bank to see how well they perform.
