After receiving a selection of the Carp and €uro Candy from Vision Baits about a month ago, we though the best way of describing these baits was to talk to the man who developed the baits. So we got on the phone and had a right good chat with Darren Conway about the ideas behind the Vision Baits Candy range of products discussed the chosen flavours, product development and colour selections. To give you the angler a better idea into why this revolutionary food source has taken many venues both in the United Kingdom and European waters apart, here’s what he had to say.

UKMA – What is the idea behind the Carp Candy and how did the €uro Candy Come About?

DC - The Carp Candy range of fluoro pop up and bottom bait were launched to meet the numerous requests of anglers who were looking for fluoro bottom bait that matched a pop up in both colour and flavour. About a year after their release and following the products huge success, requests for larger versions of the existing Carp Candy fluoros from both home and abroad flooded in. We at Vision Baits finally buckled under the pressure, to release the €uro Candy 18mm hook baits. If the Carp Candy was special, then these are the real Big Guns, as they utilise the same flavours and attractors as the original 12mms, only in a size more suitable to carping overseas.

UKMA – With so many potential flavour options to choose from, what made Vision Baits select these four flavours and have you done anything different to improve the baits performance?

DC - During 2009 testing, some ridiculous catches have been achieved on both French commercial venues, and large windswept gravel pits, including fish to over 70lb so far. With the outstanding results achieved by the Carp Candy flavours, we knew we had it right and decided to stick with them when we finally announce the eagerly awaited launch of the €uro Candy range. Sticking with the winning Pineapple & N-Butyric (fluoro yellow), Citrus Fizz (fluoro orange), Scopex & Peach (fluoro pink) and Choccy D (fluoro blue) flavour and colour combinations, all of which are presented in a much firmer bait. Vision have extended this 'Viagra' treatment (as we call it) into the 12mm Carp Candy range too, tweaking the basemix and liquid glug to help keep the baits harder for longer!

UKMA – In your own words, give us the history of your chosen flavours for the Candy Range and an insight into how they became part of the Vision range.

DC  -

Pineapple & N-Butyric - Let's start with the classic pineapple fluoro.

Using the unmistakable mix of pineapple and n-butyric, we've pushed the attractor levels to the ultimate level.

Available in a 'motorway maintenance' yellow/green fluoro colour, these offer something a little different to the standard duller yellow offerings on the market.

The idea is to draw all the carp's attention to your hook bait visually, and then turn him on with the outstanding attractor combination.

I don't need to tell you that these babies will catch plenty of carp in all weather conditions.

Fizz Harvest - Most of you will associate orange baits with tutti-frutti, so what if we told you we'd sourced two carp angling flavour legends to put into this bait instead?

These two unmistakable citrus flavours were big favourites throughout the '80s and '90s, before the flavour-house producing them disappeared!

The combination literally tore waters apart, with venues all across the North West, Shropshire and the Midlands making the most of the attractor bait revolution and as single hook bait in winter, many believe there's no match for this combination.

After much searching and testing, we've managed to source identical flavours from a trusted supplier, allowing us to unleash this bait into the carp world once again.

Used at the most effective levels, with our combination of added liquid and powdered ingredients boosting that attraction, these 'dyno-rod-van' bright orange fluoros will no doubt become a No.1 hookbait choice for many of you reading this.

Choccy D’s - We released the ChoccyD’s after phenomenal results reported from our field testers.

The combination of a sweet Damson flavour with a hint of White Chocolate sets this Fluoro Blue coloured bait in a class of its own.

A great all year round bait that comes into its own class in the winter months.

This is one bait every angler should have in their bag as an alternative in cool water conditions.

Scopex & Peach - Finally, I move onto one of modern carping's worst kept secrets – the Scopex & Peach combination.

Our field tester Mat Woods managed to extract the recipe for this from top carp angler and renowned attractor bait expert, Frank Warwick, and has since honed the recipe for his own use.

The combination of tangy fruit flavour with the smooth, creamy Scopex makes for an irresistible package the carp simply can't swim past!

Available soon in a bright pink/red, this bait offers a unique alternative to the usual bright baits being used on most venues.

Final Thoughts

I have personally found a permanent space in my bait bag for the Carp Candy and the €uro Candy, they simply offer the angler an alternative to usual baits. No matter how successful your usual bait may be, there’s always seem to have the odd bad day when fish simply wont go near them, and that exactly when the Carp Candy and €uro come into there own. They simply give you an alternative flavour, texture and colour that might just make that very important difference on a hard session, a great idea that has caught me; you should give it a try.
