Stoney & Friends CEMEX Angling Yateley Fish-in 2010

The 14th Annual Stoney & Friends Yateley Fish-in recently took place on the CEMEX Angling run Yateley complex, providing over 130 anglers the opportunity to sample some quality fishing in cracking surroundings, alongside helping to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.  This year also saw the return of ‘Stoney’s Friends’ a musical quintet, who after the success of their first outing last year, looked to entertain the participants with a selection of new songs.

With the unseasonal weather encountered the fishing started rather slow for some, with the majority of lakes not producing a fish until Saturday, though the anglers on Sandhurst lake, were experiencing some good fishing from the off, with Andy, Tim & Tom Swain having a productive session taking a number of carp up to 31Ib 6oz, with young angler Tom smashing his PB with a 25Ib Common carp.  A number of other fish were also caught with Joel Pritchard also breaking his personal best, in the shape of a 10Ib 4oz bream.  As with previous years the Match Lake produced consistent results with a number of cats being caught, with Jon Kitching taking the biggest at 54Ib, alongside 2 others over the weekend.  There were a number of carp caught from the Match Lake, with Kevin ‘Hippy’ Winters taking the biggest at 24Ib’s.  Not to be outdone Marc Trayler over on the Split lake, also took a 54Ib catfish, beating his personal best in the process

Both the Pads & North Lakes were unusually quiet this year, producing only 4 fish between them, with only Richard Hobbs catching on the Pads Lake, taking 2 fish both around the 26Ib bracket.  On the South Lake the pressure seemed to take its toil on the fishing with only a handful of fish being caught, though all the anglers agreed that it’s not all about the fishing, with the social aspect playing a big part in the weekend’s activities.

So onto the Sunday and with the fishing over all the anglers assembled in the car park, ready in anticipation; not just for the raffle, but a chance to sample the entertainment offered by the ‘Stoney’s Friends’ band, who having shown off their skills at the previous year’s event, were back to offer the crowd some new songs.  The band with Keith Arthur on vocals, Glynn Gomersall on drums, Nigel Bax on bass, Roy Naylor on guitar & Ruth Lockwood on the fiddle, produced a polished performance which had the crowd clapping & singing along, so a massive thank you must go to all the band members for all the hard work they have put in.

And so to the final part of what was proving to be a fantastic weekend’s entertainment – the raffle which has always been one of the highlights of this event, with this year being no exception having some superb prizes on offer.  Before this though the opportunity was taken to thank all those persons who had helped raised monies for the fund, with special thanks going to Tim Paisley, Joel Pritchard, Steve Hall & Steve Dale, who raised £1500, £985, £678 & £460 respectively, which along with the remaining sponsorship & raffle monies helped to bring the total raised this year to over £16,000, adding that to the total raised so far for Macmillan Cancer Support of £336,000.

The Macmillan Stoney & Friends Committee would like to extend our thanks to all our sponsors and supporters, who without their generosity the event would not be the success that it is, thus we would not be able to raise the sums of money we do for people living with cancer.
