Three Tackle Items He Would Never Leave Home Without

Carl Sharp

We all have our favourite brands of terminal tackle, rods, reels, line etc that we all use by choice. We have all spent time and money selecting the equipment that is right for our own style of angling and our personal angling requirements. We choose some of these products because they do exactly what they say they will but in most cases simply because we have 100% confidence in the product, catch fish using them regularly and because they work so well we wouldn’t change them for all the tea in China.

With this in mind we asked UKCarpAngler's very own rising star Carl Sharp “what are his three tackle items he would never leave home without?” and here’s what he had to say.

Solar Unleaded

This material has been a major breakthrough in my opinion, taking all the stiffness out of the standard lead core material and yet still having a lot of weight, allowing the leader to hug the contours of the bottom (as long as you slack line). The 15lb version also makes a brilliant hook-link material, banking a lot of carp for me over the past 6 months.

Solar Rig Cone

Although not a brand new product, 2011 was the first time I got my hands on one of these simple yet effective devises. I was a little sceptical at first that shrinking my tubing around the cone would make no difference to my usual ‘kicker’ type angle (bending at a straight 45 degree angle over a kettle with the aid of forceps) but boy was I wrong! Once changing to a more ’withy’ type setup my catch rate increased, so much so that I also tricked the carp I was after from my syndicate lake on its first trial run.

Trakker NXG PVA Pouch

As a carp angler, it seems the norm to be using a lot of PVA in our fishing these days, and having a bag / pouch that carries all the variations that we may need in our session can be very handy. Its nice and compact, but with all the different compartments and pockets houses a lot of PVA. It also has the compartment that holds pre made PVA stocking type bags, so you can have a few made up with pellets and be fishing within minutes of setting up.

Congratulations -Today, Tuesday the 31st of January is Carl’s 28th Birthday, so on behalf of the entire team at UKCA we wish you a very happy Birthday!!
