Hooked On Foods

When it comes to cooking on the bank, I’ll think you’ll agree at times that its not our top priority, especially when there is plenty of fish action, but at the end of the day we need to eat as much as the carp, so anything that can make things quick and easy is a blessing. Hooked on Foods have arrived to do just that! The man behind the idea, Sean Malone, hated the thought of having to go and get supplies from the local supermarket when he had only just visited his local tackle shop, wasting valuable fishing time. So his idea behind the business was to try and design a food sachet that could be:

* Dispersed to tackle shops for retail
* That had a long shelf life
* Didn’t need to be chilled
* Would be ready to eat within 2 minutes with the use of a saucepan or in the sachet

The 4 meals that were sent to UKMA for review were:

* Lancashire Hotpot
* All Day Breakfast
* Chicken Tikka Masala
* Beef Stew And Dumplings

I must say that I wasn’t sure what to expect when opening the sachet, but quite surprisingly once opened the aromas coming up from inside were lovely, and I couldn’t wait to tuck in. The good thing about these meals is that they state they can be eaten either hot OR cold, which is even handier when you’re looking for a quick snack and a blessing when your stove is out of gas.

I opted to heat mine up, and once into the saucepan I simply turned on a low heat. I didn’t introduce any water, which I thought I may have needed to help moisten up the meal, because in fact after only 30 seconds in the saucepan, the natural juices from within the food came oozing out and created a lovely sauce for the meal.

The only drawback I would say is that the portion size is a little small for me (maybe I’m just greedy!) at 300g per pack, but the actual food and idea behind the business is genius!

I think these would be very handy for spare food that could be kept in your rucksack should you run out, as the long life dates make this possible, and the sachets in which they are stored take up no room whatsoever and weigh next to nothing.

The Hooked on Food range should be available in a nearby tackle shops very soon and will retail for a very reasonable £3.99 per sachet.
