Solar Supremo Lands World Record Carp

Solar Supremo Lands World Record Carp

Carp angling Mecca, Rainbow Lakes, has put another feather in it’s already well decorated cap, by producing an incredible 94lb Mirror. After a chat with Paul Hunt from www.rainbowcarptours.co.uk He confirmed that at 6.00am on Tuesday the 6th of January, Solar tackle supremo Martin Locke, landed the new World record fish from peg number 12.
Martin jumped out of the comfort of his sleeping bag and bivvy at 6am on 6th January, in temperatures of -3C, wearing only a t-shirt & trousers to net the monster fish that tipped the scales at 94lbs. The enormous fish weighed the same as "Kylie Minogue" (according to the Daily Telegraph) and beat the previous world record by 3lbs.
The fish - nicknamed "Lockey's Lump" - was the only take, Martin, 47, had during the week-long trip to Rainbow Lake near Bordeaux.
Upon picking up the rod that the take came off, Martin jumped in his boat and motored the 200 yards out to the fish and began playing the collosal creature.
At first, he thought he had hooked a snag due to the weight of it, but was gobsmacked when he heaved the carp to the surface.
Getting it in his landing net was like "trying to land a small hippo with a tennis racket", but after succeeding, he bought it to the shore to weigh it.
Despite the early hour and freezing temperatures, Martin's phone was running red hot due to the sheer number of text messages being sent (& recieved), and it was not long before the capture was being reported across the Internet on various websites..
UKMA would like to thank Martin and Solar Tackle for allowing us access to the original digital image, as well as sending out our well deserved congratulations on the capture.
