Neville bags a beauty on his first visit to new syndicate

Neville Rice the owner of Essex based NBrice Stainless has not only got a reputation for superb carbon and stainless pods, he has a bit of a name as a big fish angler as well. After recently joined Essex carp Mecca Cleverley Mere, he started his campaign on the venue with the knowledge that big fish were definitely going to be on the cards but the Essex based rod didn’t realise that his first session on the water would produce such a result. UKMA had a word with Neville and in his own words here’s what lead up to the capture of ‘Hendrix’ a stunning chocolate brown Mirror.

“It was the 2nd May and my first session on the Cleverley Mere syndicate, my chosen venue for the 2011 campaign. I arrived at the lake with a 5 night session ahead of me, so I took a steady walk around the lake and found some fish in a swim called ‘The Bowls’. I decided to give it a go, so I put down my bucket to hold the swim and went and got the rest of my kit. After 3 nights in the swim with out a bleep and as the days passed by with less and less fish activity in front of me, I assessed the situation and decided that a move was in order to hopefully change my fortunes”.

Neville continued “Whilst having a chat with Dave Levy who was on the Point Swim, I spotted several fish show out in the open water. So it was back to my swim, a quick pack up and a move to a swim called ‘The Pads’. Not knowing the swim, I decided not to get the marker rod out and spook fish that were already in the swim, so I decided to sit and wait for the fish to show and tell me where to put my rigs. I didn't take long for the first fish to show so out went the first rod to the mark and over the next couple of hours my other rods were located in area’s showing regular signs of fish activity.

At about 1.30am on my fourth night on the lake I was woken by the unmistakeable sound of a one toner. The fish run me all over the swim for about 20 minute but the final victory was mine. I slipped the net under a very big shape and looked in to the net to see a fantastic chocolate brown mirror that is commonly know to the syndicate regulars as ‘Hendrix’.  I made sure this stunning fish was safely recovering in the sling and got assistance from a friend who was fishing a few swims away who helped me weigh in this very impressive creature that rocked the scales at 41lbs 8oz”.

UKMA had a quick chat with Neville to find out exactly what bait he had used to entice this stunning 41lbs.08oz creature. He willingly informed us that the winning combination was a Tails Up Pro-Fish white 10mm Pop Up on top of half of a Southern Special Pink Panther Dumbell. UKMA want to congratulate Neville on this fine capture and we will be keeping an eye on him and his angling escapades on this superb syndicate to see how his campaign develops and grows over the coming year.
