Marshy starts his winter campaign with the biggest UK fish of 2011

Word has just arrived in the UKMA office from Mainline Baits, Atomic Tackle, Free Spirit backed carp catching machine Rob Marsh about his latest big fish capture. The Kent based angler who’s catch CV is amongst the best in country has now added the big mirror from Elphicks North Lake to his ever growing list of big fish caught. Rob landed the Big Girl at a magnificent 60lbs 6oz to break his own UK PB and also land the biggest carp taken from a UK venue in 2011. A delighted Rob contacted the UKMA office and in his own, words here’s exactly how the events unfolded.

"With my target water slowing down and after just getting back from Abbey lakes it was time to have a go for a fish that has been on my mind for a long time now. After speaking to Mark at the lake I soon had some over nighters booked but the lake was really busy and only 2 Thursday nights were available at first and both ended in blanks but I had been baiting several spots with a mixture of 10mm Mainline cell boilies cell responce pellet and Hinders salamiz Hemp and Hinders mini combi pellets. The weather was cock on when I returned back at the lake on Monday afternoon there was five anglers on but to my surprise no one was in the swim I had been baiting. With the spomb rod already clipped up I baited with around 3 kilos of mix and then placed 2 baits on the spot. "

"My first take ended in me losing a good fish at the net. I then landed a 22lb mirror I then spodded another couple of kilos of mix. I was up at 6am to pack up as I had to be off the lake by 7am. At 6.30am my right hand rod was away after a good battle I slid the net under a cracking mirror. I thought the fish was a good 40 but when I lifted her out I soon realised it was the Big Girl. On the scales she went 60lb 6oz and as you can guess, I was over the moon. My successful set up was a 3lb tc Free Spirit hi s rod, 10lb power carp line, Atomic bombz away safety clips set up with tungsten tubing and a 2oz gravel swivel lead. The rig was 15lb jel e wyre in sandy, with a size 6 Haula Hook. My chosen hookbait was a 14mm cell with half a pineapple pop up; tipped with a fluro maggot soaked in hinders betalin as a hair stop."

Foot Note - The team at UKMA would like to congratulate Rob on yet another very impressive result. Over the next few months (weather permitting) we will be hooking up with Rob and his angling companion Lee Merritt to give you an insight into what makes these two prolific anglers so successful.
