Baitcraft T1 Produces a Great Ouse Stunner

After 4 months of tracking down  groups of nomadic river carp, studying there movement patterns and locating potential feeding areas over a 4 mile stretch of the river Great Ouse near Huntingdon in Cambridgeshire, UKMA team member Ray Best has finally reaped the rewards of his efforts by landing a stunning 25lbs 9oz common from this majestic waterway. After pre-baiting numerous carpy looking areas over several weeks and spending the odd night fishing these areas with no joy at all.  Ray opted to try an area that he had seen fish feeding over a few months earlier but for some unknown reason he had neglected to revisit this spot.

Ray explained to UKMA his tactics and the end result;

"I arrived on the river bank just as the sun was setting and introduced two kilo of roughly chopped T1 boilie pieces mixed with two kilo of freshly prepared wheat and two kilo of T1 pellets over a clear gravel bed next to a marginal area lined with bull rushes and a huge bed of lily pad that lined the bank for about a mile in either direction. I fished two rods over the sizable clear spot, one at the down stream end with a single calk ball pop up heavily glugged in T1Cow Cola fished tight to the bull rushes in 3 feet of water. The second rod was placed just under the lily pads in about 6 feet of water just of the bait spot with a snow man presentation incorporating a small PVA stick of boilie crumb."

"After 2 hours of no activity what so ever, the still of the night was disturbed by that distinctive sound that a carp makes as it slaps its body weight on a waters surface (it sounded like a cow falling out of a helicopter from 50 feet into a paddling pool) I could clearly see the ripple this commotion had caused in the clear moon light and it was definitely a good sized carp and it was 10 yards down stream of my baited area. It was now 2.30 in the morning and the adrenalin rush had started to wear off and sleep deprivation had seriously become an issue when my right hand rod bleeped once then nothing for about 10 seconds, then all hell broke loose!"

"A one toner screamed from my receiver as I grabbed my rod and engaged the clutch and after nearly four months effort I finally connected with a very good river carp. As I had previously mentioned the whole stretch of river bank has a massive bed of lily pads that run as far as the eye can see and during the troublesome 15 minute tussle that I had with what turned out to be a stunning bronzed backed common in near perfect condition, I spent 12 minutes with the fish buried underneath this mass of vegetation and on two occasions I was totally snagged but the gods of all things carp showed mercy and my braided line was able to cut free of the underwater perils."
