Waveney Valley C Lake produces two 30lb Commons in 8 hours

Whilst out on one of my many field testing exercises, I was fortunate enough to witness the capture of two superb Commons that both rocked the scales at 30lb and were caught from the superb Waveney Valley complex. These pristine conditioned fish both came from the in-form C Lake, fell to totally different tactics and to two different anglers. This was no mean feat as the weather was far from perfect, with bright sunshine the norm and temperatures soaring.

The pick of the duo was the exceptionally long, perfectly scaled common carp know as the “Immaculate” (pictured right) which tipped the scales at an impressive 38lb and was taken by local Tackle shop assistant Adrian Dorling.
The 47 year old (O.K Adrian and I’m slim) Gorleston Angling Centre rod fished “The Chod” which is the favoured method on this excellent complex tight to a far bank snag, using a15mm Mainline New Grange Pop Up as hook bait,.

Adrian enticed the big common by regularly loose feeding 18mm New Grange Boillies via a catapult, creating a well spread baited area which got this big common searching and eventually this very impressive creature took his hook bait at around 18.30 (6.30pm).
The fish put up a superb fight but it had met its match in Adrian and after about 5 minutes the very long, hard fighting common was in the net and ready to be weighed.

The capture of this fish was a momentous occasion for Adrian, who destroyed his previous personal best by 10lb.

So when we asked Adrian how he felt about the capture, we were not surprised at all that all we could get out of him was “Brilliant”. The rig that done the biz incorporated the use of a 1.5m ESP Gravel leadcore, with a 1.5oz Lead to hold it down, with his chosen hook link material being ESP Stiff Filament and to finish off Adrian opted for the de-facto Size 5 ESP Stiff Rigger Hook.

Now I feel the need to be exceptionally honest here and point out that In my quest for that all ellusive first "thirty" (I have now landed 91 Carp over 20lb in 16 months) which produced nothing bigger than a 20lb mirror for yours truly.

Yes!! I yet again got "Fish Caked" (battered on both sided) with my angling partner for the session, Mark Sadler also hitting into a quality C Lake common which after virtually burning his alarms battery, out came to the net and the fish weighed 30lb on the button.

Mark, from St. Neots in Cambridgeshire, presented a single Pop Up over a bed of loose offerings down the shelf from his marginal swim. His chosen bait for the session was the Nutrabaits Pineapple and N-Butyric 15mm Boilies, with a single Boilie on the hair to entice his common who is lovingly known by the venue experts as “Shoulders”.

Mark connected with the big common at around 01.20 (1.20am) after relocating his rigs after several hours of inactivity from his margin attack.
