Jel-E-Wyre Bare-Bak

Atomic Tackle have had the Jel-E-Wyre coated braid in their portfolio for several years now, and it has developed a cult following with a lot of anglers on the big fish scene. One thing that was missing from the Atomic range, was a sinking braided hooklink material, but Simon Healy has looked at this now and after a serious testing, Jel-E-Wyre Bare-Bak has been launched.

As the name suggests, Jel-E-Wyre Bare-Bak is essentially the original Jel-E-Wyre coated braid without the outer coating. The material itself is a strand of Kevlar that has Dyneema filaments tightly braided around it to create a true sinking braid that is also abrasion resistant. Using this process has made the diameter 11% thicker than the core of the coated version, but Bare-Bak is still ultra supple and lends itself perfectly to PVA bag use as well as taking up the contours of the venue perfectly.

Atomic reccomend almost all of the commonly used knots within angling with Jel-E-Wyre Bare-Bak and using these knots will give the stated breaking strain on the spool. As usual, we tested these claims, and we can report that they are correct when using Grinner, Knotless, Figure of 8 Loop and Palomar Knots.

The Jel-E-Wyre Bare-Bak is available on 20m spools in 15lb and 25lb breaking strains in either Silt Brown or Weed Green colourations. Each spool of Jel-E-Wyre Bare-Bak has a RRP of £10.99 and can be purchased from Atomic Tackle directly via their website or from your local Atomic Tackle stockist.

We are going to put the Bare-Bak through its paces over the summer and autumm and update this article with our long term findings.
