Carp Craze

Leadcore Ready Made Rigs

RRP: £ 3.99 Each

A lot of companies forget that newcomers to the sport have to start somewhere and with the multitude of rig components in their ranges inevitably confuses a lot of new anglers and a lot of the time can lead to the newcomers fishing with rigs that could potentially be dangerous to the fish or significantly lower the chances of a fish picking up the hookbait due to a poor presentation.

With this in mind, the guys at Carp Craze have sat down and put together some ready made rigs using components that seasoned anglers would also have in their armoury, rather than go for the cheapest of the cheap like a lot of the similar products available on famous online auction sites.

We were sent 3 of the rigs which are all of the inline style, and probably the first rigs that the majority of anglers actually used when they first started out. The inline setup allows for a good bolt effect which increases the chance of the fish pricking itself upon picking the hookbait up, due to the instant weight felt when the hooklink is tightened and the lead comes into play.

The hooklink itself is constructed of high quality products including Kryston coated material for the hooklink itself. The hooks used look to be of good quality with the points being sharp and covered in a piece of silicone in the packet to protect the point. The hooklink is tied up with a knotless knot with the hair length being adequate for the majority of single hookbaits or double smaller baits. At the opposite end of the hooklink, the material is tied off to a size 8 ring swivel which sits perfectly inside the lead. The hooks are barbless and have a short shank with a beaked point which is proven to give the best hookholds from a barbless hook. The wire used in the hooks is of a medium guage and has been forged for additional strength. For the situations where these rigs will be used in, there is next to no chance of them opening up. Where a coated braid has been used for the hooklink, the coating has been left intact along the hooklink other than the hair which allows the angler to strip back the amount that they require. On some of the hooklinks, Kryston's legendary SnakeSkin has been used which is a multistrand inner, and with this material the hair has also been left coated due to the nature of the hundreds of fine strands.

The three rigs are available in Camo Green, Gravel Brown and Silt Black, which one of them should be suited for the bottom fished over. The 3 different coloured rigs in the range are ready affixed to a 30" leadcore leader which has been colour coded to the conditions stated on the label. 30" is more than long enough for a rig of this type as longer lengths can tether up before the lead has time to come off the leader should the angler experience a breakage above the leadcore. The mainline end of the leadcore has been spliced with a loop that compresses easily so the lead and tail rubber will slide over.

The leads themselves are also very well made and would make up half the cost of the complete rig if purchased seperately. The style of the leads supplied are of the flat pear style and have a textured coating which will enhance the camouflage effect as well as pick up small particles that you may be fishing over to give you a better idea of what debris you are fishing over. The lead size is available in two size; 1.5oz and 2oz,

Final Thoughts

For the more experienced angler, these rigs will probably not be of any interest unless a physical disability stops the angler from creating their own setups, but for the newcomer to the sport or those that do not have lots of disposable income available to buy all the components seperately on the chance they may like the setup or rigs, the Carp Craze Leadcore Ready Rigs fill a gap perfectly. The only thing missing from the rigs, which is not a criticism or necessity, is a small strip of boilie stops and the bait itself.
