Coleman Sportster Stove

The Test of Time

If there was ever a cooker to be named that had been around for years, used by many anglers/campers, and was always reliable no matter what the weather was doing, the Coleman Sportster Stove would be at the top of the list. It’s no secret that Coleman have always been at the forefront of outdoor portable stoves, and the compact, yet sturdy design of the sportster has always been a firm favourite with many anglers.

The Sportster comes housed in its very own hard plastic casing, which apart from protecting it in transit and from the elements, also has a carry handle moulded into the design for handling on the bank. The actual stove itself is a very compact design, with measurements of 15cm x 12cm, and an overall weight of just over 1kg, this cooker will not weigh down your luggage. Within the box you will also find a list of instructions, which is translated into 6 different languages, as a step-by-step guide, along with matching illustrations on how to prime your cooker. There is also a maintenance section that lists every part used within the cooker should you wish to strip it down for servicing/cleaning.

The cooker throws out 2500 watts of adjustable cooking power, which is more than adequate in fact it has been tested on boiling 1 litre of water, which took less than 5 minutes! Once filled with fuel (takes just over ½ litre), the cooker will burn for up to 8 ½ hours continuous use before the need to refill which is an amazing saving on fuel costs when compared to the conventional propane/butane mixture type cookers, which also create a lot of waste with empty bottles needed to be discarded.

CAUTION: ALWAYS fill your petrol cooker outside. Remember to wash your hands thoroughly before lighting the cooker to prevent potential burns and especially before handling your bait, as petrol fumes may still be present which will contaminate your bait and affect your results greatly. NEVER use in the house, caravan, bivvy, or any other enclosed area that is not well ventilated.

Final Thoughts

We at the UKMA office agree tenfold that the Coleman Sportster Stove will always have a place in the session anglers kit list with its already well established reputation as being a firm favourite over the past 15 years by many who use it, it would be silly to ignore the Coleman Sportsters star studded reputation amongst anglings elite! Available from all good quality camping outlets and tackle shops, with a RRP of £65, but by shopping around you will find a much better deal.
