Kelly Kettle

Company Profile

UKMA: Can you explain briefly how you got into angling?

Patrick Kelly (PK): Born and bred on the shores of Lough Conn, Co. Mayo, Ireland which is famous for its free rising Brown Trout and its strong Salmon runs from the Moy River system.   My family are steeped in the trout fly-fishing tradition and have provided a guide service on Lough Conn for four generations.  We also do a lot of Match angling and have all had the honour of representing Ireland on Irish trout Fly-Fishing teams over the years.

UKMA: How did you start in the angling trade?

PK: As above.  We were born into it!  After Management Careers in International Marketing and Banking respectively, My brother Seamus and I took over the family business and are the forth generation of the ‘Kelly’s to bring you our kettles.

UKMA: What made you decide to start your own business within the angling industry?

PK: The sheer fun of it!   Plus, it’s very hard to explain to a boss who knows nothing about fishing – that the ‘mayfly is up’, or that the ‘spent conditions are perfect – can I leave work now?’

UKMA: How long has the company been running?

PK: The Kelly Kettle Company was in operation for three generations before my brother Seamus & I (4th Generation) took over the business approximately six years ago.

UKMA: How do you see the future with regards to company expansion over the forthcoming years?

PK: We have recently appointed a Distributor for North America and are currently in discussions with Distributors in South Africa & Japan.  We also have a number of new products in the pipeline (end summer 2010) which we believe will be of great interest to customers.
