Arma-Kord

When it comes to casting spods or long range casting, a low diameter shock leader is a massive boon to the angler when putting significant pressure into the cast. A lot more anglers are feeling the pinch due to the recession and instead of running the cost of spooling 4 or more reels with braided mainlines, they are dropping diameter and breaking strains of their monofilament mainlines to hit the required distances. Most anglers are aware of the dangers of doing this and are using shockleaders to take the initial force of the cast with the heavy weights they are casting, but you still see anglers putting other anglers lives at risk by not using a shockleader.

Anglers seem to look at the use of shockleaders as being "uncool", but in my opinion "uncool" is potentially causing injury or even worse to your other anglers due to a crack-off!

Korda have had their shockleader material in their product range for a few years now, but Arma-Kord is something that has been a part of my angling armoury only recently. I had been using a shockleader from a spool of braid that I was given by a friend, but I was never that happy with it as the abrasion resistance was not as high as I expected. When I was recommended the Arma-Kord by another friend, I decided to give it a try, and since then it has not been off the rods when I require a shockleader.

The Arma-Kord is available in 30lb and 50lb breaking strains, and I use the 50lb version for all of my shockleader work, and the 30lb as hooklink material when I am expecting to fish near snags or if the possibility of a catfish is quite high.

The braid is tightly woven on the material which makes the diameter very low for the breaking strain which makes for both neat, small, tidy knots, and maximum distance as it comes off the spool on the cast.

I have tested the abrasion resistance by running it over the side of some corrugated metal, and Arma-Kord took an extra 19 strokes over the metal before it parted over the best of the other high abrasion resistant braids that I had to hand.

What else can I say about a braided shock/snag leader or hooklink material? It does the job it has been designed to do and it does it extremely well. I cannot see myself wanting to move away from it for the latest vogue material unless I can be persuaded that the new materials do the job better.

Top Klass, Korda!!
