Korda Safezone Flying Backleads

Long Term Test

The Safezone Flying Backlead have been around for some time now and are still widely recognised as being one of the best back lead systems available. The way that they can be added to your set or removed without removing your rig has made them a part of most anglers tackle selection over the years. They are designed to fly back up the line on the cast and make it possible to anchor your reel line down anything up to 20 Yards back from your rig, keeping everything tight and out of sight from even the most cautious of creatures.

Many anglers have reported on the numerous internet forums over the years that they have had problems with the Safezone Flying Backleads coming off the reel line during casting. I personally have never had this problem as I simply followed the instructions on the packaging.

Connecting the Safezone Flying Backleads is simplicity it’s self;

1 - To incorporate the Safezone Flying Backlead into your set the only component you have to add to your reel line before your rig is attached is single rubber 4mm stop bead, then attach your rig as normal.

2 - Then locate the groove on the side of the plastic insert and place your reel line into the groove ensuring it moves freely and without restriction on your reel line and also making sure the umbrella shaped end of the insert is pointing towards your rig.

3 - Then take the Backlead and locating the groove place your reel line inside making sure that the flared end is closest to your rig, and carefully push the Backlead over the insert ensuring that the grooves are not in-line (this prevents the Backlead coming off during casting). If the Backlead is flying too far up the line on the cast, you can reverse the insert so the flared end is closest to the rod tip to lower the distance the Backlead flies from the end tackle

4 - Once you have every component assembled carry out on last movement check to ensure that your reel line has not been trapped between the Flying Backlead and insert and you’re ready to cast.

By following the above instructions you should never lose a back lead during casting, but one thing I have noticed is if you are playing a fish and it takes you through dense weed, then the Safezone Flying Backlead and insert always seem to eject themselves from the reel line, making fish playing in these situations a much easier and safer task. You get six Backleads per pack and they are available in light, medium and heavy sizes this gives you’re the option to add weight to the eliminate line movement when a strong under tow is being experienced.

Final Thoughts

If you like your terminal tackle accessories to be functional and practical you won’t do much better than the Safezone Flying Backlead system from Korda. They have become a permanent part of my tackle armoury over the past couple of years and until something better comes along they will stay there. These great products sell for a very reasonable £5.30 per pack, a tackle accessory that has well and truly past the test of time, well done again Korda!!
