Korda Developments Hybrid Lead Clip
RRP £3.99

One of the age old issues with carp fishing is to make the rig that the angler is using as safe to the fish as possible. This means that should a crack off or breakage occur, the lead is ejected from the system, minimising the risk of the fish becoming tethered should the bait be picked up. After what seems to be a lifetime of articles printed in the magazines and shown in almost every angling DVD ever released, it is mindblowing the sheer number of anglers that still set up a lead clip arrangement incorrectly. Danny Fairbrass and the guys at Korda sat down a few years back and started work on designing a lead safety clip that was almost impossible to set up incorrectly - Enter the Hybrid Lead Clip.

Korda Hybrid Lead Clip

The Hybrid lead clip is a typical safety clip with one major difference. All of the other safety lead clips available on the market work on the pronciple of the hooklink swivel being pulled into an aperture within the clip itself and locking into place either by a tight fit, a small peg or by a ridge inside the clip itself. All of these ways other than the peg setup, can lead to the clip coming away from the swivel should the tail rubber be pushed on too far, leaving the fish to trail around the lead still should a birds nest occur behind the clip on the line. The Hybrid Lead Clip has been made so that it is impossible for the swivel to come out of the clip itself by actually moulding the clip on to a specially designed swivel system. This essentially means that the swivel itself is the lead clip and the lead is ejected 100% of the time should it become well and truly snagged. The swivel itself, because it is permanently fixed into the clip, only swivels at one end. Some people may think this may cause twisting of the hooklink, but the eye was still able to rotate relatively freely under pressure. Korda have also finished off the swivel at the hooklink end with a welded ring, which can be snipped off using a pair of pliers or cutters if not required.

The eye that the reel line or leader is tied onto has been ovalled so that the tail rubber slides over it neatly. This means that the tail rubber can slide back under pressure from a snagged lead much easier that if it was the standard round profile.

Korda have thought about how anglers use the lead clip systems and the Hybrid lead clip can be used both with light and heavy leads (upto 5oz) with no loss of effectiveness. The standard ridged rear of the clip allows for that tail rubber to be pushed on a short distance for use with lighter leads or if the angler wishes the lead to be jettisoned on the take, or the tail rubber can be pushed on all the way for use with heavy leads or if the angler only wants the lead to be ejected if snagged solid. Korda have also designed the Hybrid clip to have a small gap when the tail rubber is pushed on fully which allows the angler to tie a piece of PVA string around the clip to hold a heavy lead on when casting to extreme ranges or when used with a large PVA bag. The clip itself where the lead sits has been redesigned from past Korda clips and is more streamlined than previous versions. The arm of the clip is now straighter in comparison to the older curved type. This gives slightly more movement of the lead swivel when mounted, but also allows easily discharging.

The Hybrid lead clip is available in the standard four colours that Korda use in their range - clay, weed, silt and gravel, and the standard Korda tail rubbers fit the clips perfectly.

We have used the original Hybrid clips and these newer versions, and the newer versions are basically flawless in the job that the have been designed to do - the leads eject easily and the clip stays put. Once you have used the Hybrid lead clips, we doubt that you would want to use anything else.

The Hybrid lead clips have a RRP of £3.99 for 5 clips, which may sound expensive compared to more traditional clips, but we cannot put a price on fish safety or fish landed, and we are sure that these clips have landed us more fish in the past where we have wanted the leads ejected.
