Pallatrax The Hook

Pallatrax are one of those companies that once you discover their products, you wonder how you never tried them in the past. The company's portfolio of products may not be the largest available, but they are all products that have been developed to perform perfectly and reliably.

The most recent product that we were sent to take a look at is what Pallatrax simply call The Hook.

Hooks are all personal preference at the end of the day, and I have tried most of the hooks on the market, but I had not given The Hook a look beforehand - and I wish I had!

The Hook is a very versatile pattern that can be used for both pop-up and bottom bait presentations. With a medium shank that has been forged for strength, the wire guage used is VERY strong and light for the size. The eye of the hook is very slightly inturned which will allow the hook to turn when used with soft materials as well as be well suited for use with mono and fluorocarbon without creating a too acute angle after tying.

The point of The Hook is inturned to create a "claw" effect, but the most impressive bit is that the point is literally razor sharp. No matter what size hook I picked up to test, the point went into my finger tip quite deeply with the minimum of pressure. These have to the be one of the sharpest hooks I have ever seen!

To buck the current trend of Teflon coating hooks, Pallatrax have decided not to coat the hooks in this fashion. This allows for the points to be sharper than a coated version would be and to also keep the stickiness of the points for longer - even after multiple fish or fishing over hard substrates.

If you are an all-rounder that likes to fish for all species or fishes many different styles, The Hook is available in a massive range of sizes, from the largest size 2 down to a size 16 in both barbed and barbless. I can see a lot of match anglers getting on the smaller sizes for fishing the Method feeder or straight bomb work, as well as catfish and predator anglers using the largest sizes for presenting small lip hooked deadbaits or large hair rigged pellets.

Final Thoughts

If you only want to carry one pattern of hook in your armoury that will perform perfectly in all but the most specialised rigs, then look no further than The Hook as it will do almost everything that you want from a hook without letting you down. If your local shop doesn't stock Pallatrax products, make sure that you tell them to at least stock these!
