Rig Morale

Rig Marole have built a Cult following among big fish anglers for a no nonsense approach to superb quality terminal tackle, that does its job. We contacted Rig Marole’s director Nigel Harris to send us a sample or two for review and he without hesitation immediately obliged.

Freefall Lead Clips & Tail Rubbers

Now this is something that offers a different slant to a product that has not really changed since its inception back in the 1990’s. Rig Morale have taken the standard lead clip and made it so it will almost certainly drop the lead from the rig should it snag up without the need of any doctoring.

Enter the Freefall Clip! Constructed from cast metal, the Freefall lead clip is unlike any other available in that it is designed to fall off the line itself should the lead become snagged and not simply just dump the lead. The clip has a slot cut in the top of it, that allows the line to be slotted through it and pushed over a size 9 swivel (a size 8 swivel will fit but please check that the clip can fall away under moderate pressure before casting out).  A tail rubber can then be placed over the tapered end and the clip itself to hold the lead on during the cast. Because the ribbed section of the clip where the tail rubber slides over is half the length of the standard clips, the clip will pop out of the tail rubber with ease should the lead become snagged up.

The concept is superb and I have had a play with them on the bank, and look forward to putting them through their paces properly in the coming months on some very hard waters where the lead needs to be dumped on the take due to the sheer amount of thick weed present. The tail rubbers are of a soft rubber compound that is a perfect fit for use with the Freefall clips. The rubbers are available in either green or brown to match up with the substrate that you are fishing over.

Freefall Rig Tube

Another different slant to what is currently available on the market! This is the easiest tubing I have ever used to thread, and will lay flat on the deck without needing any additional weight. The secret to the tubing is the stainless steel inner core that runs completely along the inside of the tubing (similar to bicycle brake cable sheath). I have managed to thread both mono & braid through the tubing with no effort at all. It is available in weed green, clay/sandy brown and silt/chod black and is totally reusable. A superb product in my eyes and will be bought by thinking anglers.

Freefall Back Leads

A simple to use back lead with a sprung loaded clip so the lead is only lost when snagged. Available in 1oz only at the present but other sizes are due to be launched soon. The metal clip fits through a centre hole in the lead and is simplicity to use itself. The metal clip itself is also finished smooth and will allow superb travel of line through the clip on a take or the retrieve.

Hydrolink & Hydrolink Micro

Another unique item from the guys at Rig Morale and something that has yet to be copied by other companies! Most all-in-one combi link materials have a braided inner; Hydrolink is the opposite with a braided outer and a fluorocarbon inner. To use, simply pull back the outer braid and cut off the required length of the fluorocarbon inner material before straightening out the outer braid, leaving a supple hollow section to attach either hook or swivel to. The outer braid can also be spliced with care in the same way as leadcore.

I am looking forward to having a good play with the Hydrolink material over the coming months as I can see it being useful in more ways than simply as a hooklink material in the higher breaking strains.

All the above will be updated once a full on the bank test has been carried out with the products, keep your eyes peeled for the latest updates to this article.
