Stealth Tackle 4g Small Back Leads

Keeping your line on the deck on venues full of weed can be an awkward job at the best of times. If you through thick marginal weed into the equation and try to use a conventional style back leads. The risk of entangling and snagging of the back lead in the weed is greatly increased and rather than eliminating one problem it creates an even bigger one. The back lead can and does become embedded in the weed and in the worst case scenario, when you get a take your reel line can force weed to get trapped and block the back leads clip making it virtually impossible to retrieve your reel line and virtually guarantee lost fish.

One man who over the years has looked for the solution to this problem is Stealth Tackle's, Paul Mepham. After looking at the problem for sometime, the Essex based angler and fishery owner discovered that by replacing the conventional bulkier back lead weight with a small elongated cylindrical lead, this has virtually eliminates the back lead getting snagged in the weed. This smaller lighter lead is then attached to a piece of rubber tubing that connects the line clip to the lead, this rubber tubing acts as a safety system that in the even that the back lead gets snagged in dense weed, the clip will pull free, enabling the angler to play the fish safely.

The Stealth 4g small back lead is the perfect solution when slack lining or fishing the chod Rig in cold water conditions on venues that have flat beds and virtually no features. These small lightweight back lead make it possible to pin your line down without putting tension on your rig or indicator. It is a proven fact that fish in cold water conditions will not take the bait as ferociously as they will in the warmer months. By using a back lead with say 1 or 2oz of lead on the bottom, can and will create extra tension on your rig and spook wary fish.

By keeping the back leads weight as light as possible you get the very best results form sensitive presentations.

Final Thoughts

I was first introduced to the Stealth 4g Small Back Lead in October 2010 by the MD of NBrice Stainless, Neville Rice. He introduced me to the benefits and showed how well they performed in marginal weed that was also choked in Autumnal chod. These lightweight back leads kept his line down on the rotten vegetation and chod but created virtually no resistance when he finally got a take and most importantly, they never snagged.

The only slight down fall with the Stealth Tackle 4g Small Back Lead is that the line clip is slightly too big occasionally making the back lead slide down your rig when playing a fish. This is only a minor detail and had been pointed out to me by Paul at Stealth Tackle prior to review and he is currently sourcing a smaller line clip to prevent this from happening but I feel this is a minor price to pay for superb presentation.
