Team UKMA Profile

Phil Bowers

I have been angling for around 30 years now and the passion is a great today as it was a child when I first got the fishing bug fishing with my dad and mates, for small silver fish on the rivers. Time moves on and I have been privileged enough over the years that my passion has takes me to many special venues both in the United Kingdom and more recently in France, where I have been able to share my love of fishing with both friends and family.

Over the years I have caught everything from roach at 2.5lbs up to carp to 37lbs 10oz and to date my biggest fresh water fish is a French catfish of 60lbs 1oz but I’m always searching for the next big fish. I now fish waters that require the skills that I have learned not only through trial and error but also from other anglers over the years. Unfortunately that horrible thing called "work" takes up most of the week, but when I do manage to get out on the bank and bivvy up, I make the most of my time.

The whole experience of fresh water fishing is what over the years, has become my sanctuary, the relaxation (camping as the wife calls it) and the catching obviously, make fishing the unique experience that it is. There is no better experience than watching the sun breaking the darkness to reveal the early morning mist drifting over the lake, whilst you wait in anticipation for your alarms to sound out a run that will hopefully produce your next big catch, it’s magical!!

Footnote

Phil is a very honest hard working angler who has a superb track record for big fish both in the United Kingdom and in Europe. His logical approach to specimen angling has made him the Team UKMA first choice field tester when it comes to establishing the quality of any new bait designed specifically for big fish situations. Phil tested the Essential Baits B5 for UKMA last years with exceptional results and more recently the new Black Snail from Essential Baits which he has been field testing for over 10 months with the results being published here on UKMA in April.
