Highflyers Lake - Ely

Carp2

“Highflyers” Situated just outside of the village of Chettisham, 2 miles to the North East of historic Ely, Cambridgeshire, has built a huge reputation for itself for quality match fishing.

This superb 3.5 Acre Lake was original dug as a irrigation reservoir for the local agricultural industry over 14 years ago, it was later decided to turn it into a fishery. Now with a policy of careful selective stocking and well managed Water vegetation, this 33 peg venue has everything the modern Match or pleasure angler could want.

On arrival at the Fishery you are always greeted with a warm welcome, and sometimes a free cup of Tea and a biscuit from Ken the Bailiff, who will willingly share his vast knowledge of the venue to all visiting anglers. The venue holds a massive head of Carp well into Double Figures and an abundance of pristine large Roach that keep the float active throughout the year. Highflyers has established itself as a big weight commercial venue that can pack a punch with the best of the rest. When it comes to putting big fish on the scales in match angling terms, Highflyers is up there with the best in the country.

Highflyers Lake

"Tactics & Baits" The most productive method in the warmer months on this venue is with out a doubt the pole down the edge. With every peg on the lake having at least one marginal feature to fish to, you always have options. Best baits for down the edge are corn, pellet, catmeat and paste are the venue regulars favoured baits.Up in the water at 12.5 - 14m is also a very productive approach. Venue regular Ben Townsend landed a staggering 336lb on the Saturday & 204lb on the Sunday. he loose fed 6mm cubes of meat with meat on the hook to catch fish to 10lb fishing 2ft deep. Always consider Pellet shallow as this also produces very large catches.

In cooler conditions the long pole and feeder both have there day at Highflyers with Meat, Pellet and Corn the top baits but you should never forget Maggot and caster as in poor conditions the Roach will give you some excellent sport. The current venue record stands at 498lb but with regular match winning weights well over 300lb, this well managed fishery holds unlimited potential for the angler looking for the catch of a lifetime
