Sonubaits
New Chocolate Fish

Over the past six years or so, Shropshire based Sonubaits have established a superb reputation for producing top quality baits to suit the requirements of anglers from both the match and specialist fraternities. To increase the pulling power of their extensive range of products they have put together the knowledge and experience of match angling legend Tom Pickering and Park Dean Master Champion Lee Kerry to release the Chocolate Fish range for 2011. So we gave Ian Day at Sonubaits a call and a few days later a large parcel arrived at the UKMA office for us to have a look at.

What is Chocolate Fish?

Chocolate Fish is a new groundbait for 2011 that offers something totally different to the angler. Consisting of blended fishmeals that enable the groundbait to hold firm in the feeder and mould perfectly around the method feeder. Crushed pellets are also added to provide essential small food particles that are in place to keep bigger fish interested and in your swim for longer. To achieve its distinctive characteristic, Sonubaits have added chocolate powder which increases the sweetness and stickiness of the groundbait, making it ideal for all styles of deep water feeder work. Just to give the Chocolate Fish that little boost they have also added tested and proven fish attractors to create a totally original twist to the usual method and feeder groundbaits currently available. The Chocolate Fish is available in very practical 2kg re-sealable bags a will set you back around £5.99 per bag.

To compliment the Groundbait, Sonubaits have also introduced a complete range of accessory baits to work in conjunction with the Chocolate Fish. First up you have the Chocolate Fish Feed Pellet, these are available in 4mm, 6mm & 8mm sizes. They can be fed through a catapult or pole pot or they can be used as a banded pellet in the two larger sizes. Standard preparation is the order of the day, with use straight from the bag or soaked in the normal way to create a pellet soft enough for the feeder or ‘balling in’. To enhance the pellets flavour release, there is a Chocolate Fish Liquid that as well as boosting your feed pellets when soaked can also be used to enhance your hookbaits including sweetcorn, expander pellet, meat and not forgetting your groundbaits and particles. The Chocolate Fish feed pellets are sold in 1kg bags and cost £3.99 per bag and the Liquid is sold in 250ml screw top bottle for £2.99

TOP TIP – Add Chocolate Fish Liquid to your pre-soaked hemp seed and particles, this gives it an unbelievable sweet aroma that the UKMA team have had great success with in the past on both commercial and natural venues.

There are two totally different paste options in the Chocolate fish range that can both give you an edge in different situations. First up is the Fibre Paste, Sonubaits have developed a paste that create a unique texture that can be fished on a pole, waggler or feeder and presented at distances of over 60 yards. Once the paste mixed and ready, roll it into a ball and tear or pinch the amount you require, then simply hook it on. NOTE –Fibre Paste does not need to be moulded around the hook, leave it rough and natural for perfect presentation.

The second option is the One to One paste. The rule to mixing the One to One paste is 50% water to 50% Paste, it’s that simply. Pour them both into a bait tub and mix thoroughly, this creates a very sloppy mix but leave it for 30 minutes and it will create the perfect paste for fishing on a pole. As a Brucie bonus you also get a free paste pot designed to ship out the paste on the pole which is well handy and a nice tough. Both the Fibre Paste and One to One Paste are sold in 500g bags and expect to pay around £3.99 per bag.

To complete the range you have the Chocolate Fish Soft Hook Pellets. These ready to you hookbaits have a robust yet soft texture that makes them perfect for most commercial fishery tactics including shallow fishing on a pole when getting lots of bites, when you need a reliable hookbait that will stay on the hook. WE have tested them on the bank and found them to be strong enough for all commercial fishery tactics including all pellet waggler presentations and hair rigged on the feeder at distance, when you want piece of mind that your hookbait will stay on during the cast. The Chocolate Fish Soft Hook Pellets are available in 4mm, 6mm and 8mm sizes and are sold in 125g rectangular tubs for around £2.99 per tub.

Final Thoughts

Ian Day and the exceptionally talented team of consultants at Sonubaits don’t leave anything to chance when it comes to the baits they release and the Chocolate Fish range is no exception. This well thought out bait range catches plenty of fish and offers the angler great all round versatility of product, backed by superb quality and value for money. I have had a short play with all the products in the range and could not find any real fault in each individual products performance. I must point out again, try the Chocolate Fish Liquid on your hemp the next time your out on the bank; it really gives your particle mix a definite edge. All in all the Chocolate Fish range from Sonubaits it does what it says on the tin, it’s as simple as that!!
