Sammie Perkins finishes runner-up in Solero festival

Dynamite Baits’ Sammie Perkins has just returned from last week’s Solero Ladies Festival  at White Acres where she finished second overall despite winning three out of the four days individually.

In an agonizingly close finish, Sammie was narrowly beaten to the title by Helen Dagnall who posted a perfect 24 point score. That was just one better than both Sammie and Wendy Locker who each finished with 23 points, and saw Sammie clinch second spot with a superior weight of 269lb 4oz compared to Wendy’s 175lb 11oz.

A day one draw on Python peg 24 left Sammie less than happy but after getting amongst the skimmers on paste made from Swim Stim Green groundbait fished at 7m she eventually put together a 39lb match winning net.

The second day saw her draw Twin Oaks peg 13 and she knew she would always be up against it with the better pegs in her section to the right. A strategic plan saw her take the majority of her catch on waggler fished pellet, a few on the pellet feeder and a couple down the edge on paste late on for her 60lb net. This was good enough for second in the match but unfortunately, it was also only sufficient for second in the section – the dropped point that would end up costing her the title.

She bounced on the Wednesday with another match win. This time from Twin Oaks peg 24 where she combined a pellet waggler and margin approach to put together a 105lb net, nearly doubling the weight of the second placed angler. Again, 8mm pellets did the damage on the waggler while she relied on a paste made from Green Swim Stim groundbait to catch F1 Carp down the edge.

The final day saw Sammie happy once more with a Python 15 draw and she made no mistakes. Using her trusted Green Swim Stim as paste, she fished at 4m to take 34lb of skimmers and F1’s for her third match win out of four.
