Tackle Theft at Police Service Championship

Steve Carr - Victim of Fowl PlayWe have recently received shocking inside information from the Lancashire Police angling team, regarding events at the Northwest District Police Service Angling Championship, which was fished at Meadow View Fishery, near Lymm in Cheshire.

After scoring 4 section wins and 2 second in section, the ecstatic Lancashire team’s glory was over shadowed by the reports of a tackle theft to one of their team mates.

During the match, retired police veteran Steven Carr watched in amazement as an inconspicuous Mallard Duck decided to steal one of his top kit's.

When asked exactly what happened, Steve replied “I couldn’t believe my eyes, I placed my top kit with rig attached on the section roost but to save some time I laid the un-baited hook on the ground, totally oblivious to what was about to happen”

“At this point the Mallard, with military precision, stooped down securing my hook to its tail feather and ran off with my top kit in tow, I just couldn’t believe my eyes. I immediately gave chase but the perpetrator took sanctuary on the lake still in possession of my top kit. I made several attempts at casting a lead over the rig to try and get my top kit back but the Duck was to have the last laugh”.

Well'ard MallardSteve continued “I made one last ditch attempt at casting the lead over the rig to catch the thieving sod, but all I did was spook the bird into making its final get away. It turned and looked straight at me, with a huge grin on its bill, gave me the feather and flew off with my top kit in tow. As I gave chase I could hear the Duck laugh as it disappeared into the distance”.

We spoke to the local Police when they arrived at the scene and we got the following statement. “There has been a flock of Ducks working this are for the past few weeks, taking bait and tackle at every opportunity, normally when an anglers back is turn but in this occurance, the Mallard deliberately did it in front of the angler, its like they have started to get pleasure from there crime”

Even though 18 police officers were at the lake, no eye witnesses came forward to give a statement. The only lead the police have is the description given by the latest victim who got a very good look at the Duck. The police are looking for green headed Mallard with a yellow bill with a distinctive black tip and grey plumage, with webbed feet and a distinguishing 6 foot Carbon tail attachment

There have been numerous sightings nationwide but no confirmed reports as to the Mallards whereabouts. So with this type of crime on the increase and with the severity of the crimes becoming more horrendous, the Police have been left with no alternative but to call in the “Flying Squad”
