Due to numerous anglers cancelling there pegs for this event, we have taken the decision to cancel this event due to the fact that UKMA have already had to cover the cost on numerous unpaid peg fee’s in previous events. This is a disappointing decision we have had to make but we feel it is the only sensible way of dealing with the problem. We would appreciate it if the Anglers who have paid for there pegs in advance could send an SAE to the address below and we will immediately refund the £8.00 per Angler Booking Fee for the event, this is only applicable to those who have paid in advance.

Boddington Rod Masters 2009

Match Day 1 at Boddington Res.

Winner Terry Winstone

Boddington RodMasters 2009

Match 1 - Sunday 31 May 2009

After a disappointing day previously for the British Waterways Qualifier, a lot of anglers were a little despondent at the draw. With temperatures soaring to mid-20 Celcius, and light winds, the day looked as if it was going to be hard work.

As the match started, it was not long before rods where bending round with anglers latching into fish early on. With the margins in the lower pegs literally alive with Roach spawning, anglers could have had a good day with the silver fish if they had chose to target them, and most anglers chose to ignore them and concentrate on the carp. In complete contrary to the UKMA Charity Match that took place a month prior, those that started off fishing at distance with feeders, struggled to get bites, where as those that started off fishing short with pellet wagglers or damp pellet method feeders where getting regular bites.

At the conclusion of the match it was obvious to anyone on the bank that the winner was going to come from E section where a battle was taking place between almost the whole section to who would finish in the main frame (or even win the section by default!). The winner overall Terry Winstone caught all of his fish on the pellet waggler and had 26 fish for his total weight of 161LB 13oz.

It did fish quite hard in the lower numbers of the match with some very good anglers not getting a bite until very late in the match or even going home biteless, but with at least 4 100lb+ weights and with most sections needing 50lb+ to be even half way in it, the day from far better than what most of the anglers thought it would be.

Match 2 - Sunday 28 June 2009

A warm southwesterly wind greeted the 42 Anglers who fished this the second of the 2009 UKMA series of opens, with souring temperatures and a literally thousands of fish visibly cruising the surface between pegs 51 and 100, the hopes for good sport where high but also cautious.

On the day Pellet Waggler proved to be the most productive method for most with all the top weights coming to this prolific method. Top Rod on the day was Darren Davies [DRENNAN] who caught Carp to 8lb steadily all day to amass his 160lb winning weight from fancied peg 88.

Boddington RodMasters 2009

Match 3 - Sunday 26 July 2009

Match Day 3 produced what can only be described as exceptional sport for the 33 anglers who braved the cool southeasterly wind that was steadily blowing into the bank the match was to be held on. This was the cue for the resident rod benders to get their heads down and devour all bait thrown at them.

Top Rod on the Day was Glen Greasley [Barnsley Bait Company] who steadily amassed a superb 193lb 04oz bag of mirrors and commons to 10lb, in total Glen landed 37 fish all taken on the Method Feeder at 30 yards to comfortably take first place from peg 72. In second place with 170lb 06oz from peg 83 was Wellingborough based rod Matt Grant. The Tubertini / MatchMasterUK sponsored rod also found the Method Feeder at close range to be the perfect formula to put together his superb 29 fish haul.

Match 4 - Sunday 27 Sep 2009

31 Anglers turned up to fish the 4th match of the 2009 series at what can be only described as a less than full Boddington reservoir. With temperatures falling and water levels down to on average 3 feet, the usual air of anticipation was cautious to say the least.

With a moderate North Westerly wind blowing into the Bird Sanctuary from the Dam Wall the majority of the better sport was found by the Anglers fishing the higher numbers. The usually succesfull Pellet Waggler approach producing only small pockets of fish for the anglers who put in the effort required to catch on this the hardest day of the year so far.

Top spot on the day was taken by Dave Pritchard who smashed his Bomb Rod trying to land a carp which had snagged him on the closer than normal Boating Buoys but he still managed to land 18 Carp from peg 99 on Bomb and Method Feeder tactics to amass a superb 114lb 06oz. Next door on peg 98 saw Ian Hutton [RAF] put together a 17 fish haul on the Method Feeder and Pellet Waggler to put 101lb on the Scales and take second place overall.
