Boddington RodMasters 2009
Match 1 - Sunday 31 May 2009
After a disappointing day previously for the British Waterways Qualifier, a lot of anglers were a little despondent at the draw. With temperatures soaring to mid-20 Celcius, and light winds, the day looked as if it was going to be hard work.
As the match started, it was not long before rods where bending round with anglers latching into fish early on. With the margins in the lower pegs literally alive with Roach spawning, anglers could have had a good day with the silver fish if they had chose to target them, and most anglers chose to ignore them and concentrate on the carp. In complete contrary to the UKMA Charity Match that took place a month prior, those that started off fishing at distance with feeders, struggled to get bites, where as those that started off fishing short with pellet wagglers or damp pellet method feeders where getting regular bites.
At the conclusion of the match it was obvious to anyone on the bank that the winner was going to come from E section where a battle was taking place between almost the whole section to who would finish in the main frame (or even win the section by default!). The winner overall Terry Winstone caught all of his fish on the pellet waggler and had 26 fish for his total weight of 161LB 13oz.
It did fish quite hard in the lower numbers of the match with some very good anglers not getting a bite until very late in the match or even going home biteless, but with at least 4 100lb+ weights and with most sections needing 50lb+ to be even half way in it, the day from far better than what most of the anglers thought it would be.
