British Still Water Championships Final 2009

British Waterways Stillwater Championship 2009 final took place on Saturday 12th September 2009 at BW Earlswood lakes on the Engine pool. In total 25 anglers from 5 qualifying rounds battled it out for the £3000 first place prize.The British Waterways Stillwater Championship 2009 and £3000 prize was won by Nick Dean (Maggots End) with 129-2-0 from peg 75. Nick fished pellet waggler at around 30 yards fishing and feeding 11mm pellets for most of match where he caught carp up to 11lb for his winning total. In 2nd place, picking up £1300 was the ever popular Geoff Ringer (Ringer Baits) with 127-4-0 from peg 26. Neil Russell (Kobra Feeders) took 3rd place, picking up £500 with 116-9-0 from peg 77.

The venue fished as many expected with hot conditions and little wind. Most anglers opted to fish long rang method feeder using soft micro pellets and hair rigged pellet on the hook. While other fished the pellet waggler shallow and occasionally dropped on the bottom over the same line with the straight lead and pellet. With only section winners qualifying and picking up the prize money there were some clear winners in each section and many anglers didn’t weigh in although caught fish.

Warm conditions were always going to favour the pellet waggler here. 10mm pellets fished at about 2 foot under a large pellet waggler caught most of the fish on the day and was the primary attack for all the qualifiers. Some early fish were caught on the method and soft pellets but was the pellet waggler that came good in the end.
