Angling Trust/British Waterways Stillwater Championships 2011
First Qualifier Results
Saturday 21 May 2011
Boddington Reservoir
Having fished fairly well all week, the inevitable happened for the first round of the Angling Trust & British Waterways Stillwater Championships in the first qualifier of the year at Boddington Reservoir on Saturday 21st May 2011 when the fish started to spawn, so this had an effect on the weights being down. However, it did make for some very close competition.
Top weight was Daniel Coss with 80lbs 14 ozs from peg 99, with Maurice Williams only 10 ozs behind with 80lbs 4 ozs. Third overall was Jof Rogers with 77lbs 8 ozs.
A variety of tactics on the day accounted for fish; method feeder, pellet waggler and straight lead. All the sections were very close and a number of anglers missed out on qualifying for the final by just a few ounces. It was a great day though with good weather and as normal the banter and atmosphere on the bank was great. This really is a great series of matches with top quality anglers who are friendly and helpful and a credit to the sport.
Angling Trust & British Waterways would like to offer their thanks and appreciation to the Bailiffs; Ken and John, Nigel Franklin for weighing in D and E sections, and Ian Maltby who was the organiser on the day.
The next qualifier will be held at Earlswood on 11th June 2011 with the draw taking place at the Sailing Club, Lady Lane, Wharf. B94 6AH

Grand Final Results
Saturday 17 September 2011
Blythe Waters (Bridge & Willow Pools)
The final of this inaugural joint venture event between the Angling Trust & British Waterways Stillwater Championships was switched to Blythe Fisheries in the West Midlands from Boddington Reservoir where water levels were extremely low. Initially several of the finalists were apprehensive about the new venue but after the match many said that, given the circumstances, it was probably for the best.
Following a week which produced gale force winds, flat calms, overnight temperatures down into low single figures and constantly changing air pressures, it was not surprising that catches were down on expectations. That said, the anglers felt that the venue was fair with many on pegs that on another day would have produced a framing weight. This view was re-inforced by looking at the section winning weights where 25 lbs was the lowest needed to take the money.
Eventual winner on Saturday 17th September 2011 was Leicester angler Sean Huggins (Dynamite Baits) who weighed in 54lbs 7ozs from peg 6 on Willow Pool. Sean caught all but one of his fish down the left and right margins including a real “lump” of around 14lbs. Maggot generally proved the best hook bait. Sean took away a superb trophy and the winner’s cheque for £3,000.
Runner up was Garbolino/Bait-Tech sponsored Grant Albutt. Grant was just round the corner from Sean on Willows peg 4 and brought 48lbs 3ozs to the scales. His catch comprised medium sized carp taken shallow across to the boom on pellet but afterwards he regretted making a switch to the margins for the last hour or so where he caught only one carp. Grant received a cheque for £1,258.
Brian Clarke of Banbury Gunsmiths captured third spot with a weight of 37lbs from Bridge Pool peg 10. Brian’s catch included a couple of pole caught “lumps”. His third place cheque was £662.
Finally, Angling Trust and British Waterways would like to offer their appreciation and thanks to Gail and David in the Blythe café for making everyone feel so welcome on the day.
