Most of the country’s top names were present and the league which has two matches at Barston, one at Gold Valley and one at Woodlands View look set to be a great event.

Barston fished amazingly with 36lb being the lowest section winning weight and only 8 anglers didn’t manage double figures. In form angler Darren Davies is the man to beat at the moment and he led the way with an impressive 40lb 2oz of roach, skimmers and a few F1’s from peg 118 on the gold course bank. Darren fished pole with casters and bloodworm over groundbait. It was a very tight finish as Steve Baraclough used similar tactics for 39lb 120z with Dan Ashington right on his heels with 39lb 2oz! 4th went to Cam Hughes, another man on form with 37lb 4oz.

Barnsley take an early lead into the second round with 24 points and Banbury are right on their heels only one point behind.

Topping up a few times to keep the fish coming and just enough to edge teammate Joe Carass into second by the slenderest of margins. Joe had an all skimmer catch on Middle lake, initially having to catch on the waggler but later found the skimmers queuing up on the pole line over his double leam mix.
