Drennan Wire Cage Feeders
Feeder fishing has seen many changes over the years, with numerous technological advancements in rods, reels and terminal tackle design, it is no longer the "chuck it and wait" method it was originally classified as by many of the top anglers from day’s gone bye. It has developed into one of the most productive ways of catching fish on rivers and land locked water systems, for both match and specialist anglers alike; feeder fishing is now an essential part of many anglers arsenal. Although things have advanced and the new techniques are more sophisticated than the original hair curler approaches, that were used by the originators of feeder fishing, way back in the early 70’s. One piece of equipment that has lasted the test of time is the humble wire cage feeder. I don’t think that I know any angler who doesn’t own one. These versatile feeders can be used for numerous feeder approaches and are common place on virtually all still waters and rivers nationwide The Drennan version of the cage feeder has been around for ever and has hardly changed in design at all. The Drennan Cage Feeder is manufactured from galvanised steel mesh which is used to create a cage cylinder that is designed to hold your feed when casting. The mesh is then attached to a plate lead with four retaining clips. These simply fold over the mesh to hold the lead and cage together, to form a very simple but effective feeder system.
These feeders are a multi – tasking tool that have found favour in many match and specialist angling situations. They can be used with soaked pellets, ground baits, and by using ground baits to cap of the ends of the Wire Cage Feeder you can also feed chopped worm, caster, corn, meat etc. In fact they are ideal for virtually every type of ground bait and particle approach you are likely to encounter during any session and when targeting any species including predators.
Final ThoughtsDrennan came up trumps when they designed these classic Wire Cage Feeders, they are versatile, adaptable and reliable, you as an angler can’t ask for more. One of those pieces of terminal tackle you will carry for ever had never feel embarrassed about using it either, a great feeder that every angler should have in his tackle box. A classic feeder design that will still be around in 20 years time and it will still be catching fish. |

To attach the feeder to your reel line a swivel is threaded onto a length of Power Gum, once the swivel is in the middle of the length of Power Gum, the ends of the power gum are then twisted in opposite directions. The ends are then tied together and placed under the top two retaining clips to create a very strong shock absorber which creates a flexible link between your reel line and the feeder. This makes it possible to use the feeder with any type of attachment or clip system available.
