We very rarely receive any terminal tackle these days that is designed specifically for the moving water angler’s requirements but this one arrived and we instantly thought it deserved a mention. The Competition Pole Stix from Garbolino are designed for fishing a big maggot or caster down the middle on canals, fenland drains and small slow flowing venues that require a delicate well balanced and controlled presentation. These quality floats offer superb stability due to the long slender body which spreads out to form a broad shoulder that is tipped of with thin balsa tip for ultra sensitivity and superb all round bite indication. The exceptional stability and control these floats offer the angler is greatly assisted by the inclusion of the  fine long wire stem that makes the float ideal for on the drop presentations in up to 6 – 8 feet of water.

TOP TIPUse a shirt button shotting pattern when fishing single baits on the drop in moving water, by using small shot sizes from no.10’s to no.12’s you can make the bait fall through the water at a near natural descent fooling cautious fish that would without question ignore bulk style presentations.

Final Thoughts

The Competition Pole Stix are a great slow moving or near zero flow situations but this useful float patterns skills don’t stop there. I have heard from several well known anglers that they have also found favour on some of the northern circuits snake lakes when fishing caster and maggot tight over or down the near side. Whatever the bait may be that you are presenting, UKMA can recommend for optimum bite indication you should shot the float right down and always use bristle grease. This well balanced and delicate presentation is perfect when targeting small carp, F1’s and all silver fish. A very useful float designed for the angler who targets fish of all species on many different types of venues, a great all-rounder.
