For you are one of the many of match anglers who fish winter leagues and open matches through out the winter months up and down the country on the local fish soup. Then you should be well prepared to face the daunting task of breaking the ice when permitted, just to sit there and hope that the already disturbed fish may be stupid enough to take your hook bait and offer you some kind of sport before you actually freeze to death on the bank. Then you will know that if your presentation is not perfect, then bite may not register or pass totally unnoticed. 

One way of ensuring that all bites, liners and movement are perfectly registered on the surface, is to make the right float selection. At this time of year, the use of ultra-fine sight tips, with slim carbon or wire stems have become the essential components of many of the new patterns that most match anglers now choose for winter tactics. These floats offer unrivalled sensitivity and strength, as well as superb stability and presentation. They also give the anglers who uses them a far superior bite indication over anglers using other patterns with thicker glass stems and sight tips.

HB Chumps (New for 2010)

Available in the following sizes 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 & 0.5g with red or yellow tips.

The Chump is a top quality wire stem float that is built on a 0.6 diameter stainless steel stem solidly glued into the closed cell foam body. The foam has a similar density to a very light grade balsa but an amazing compressive strength of 218psi.

The floats body has a necked down portion just above the point where the stainless steel side eye is glued in to enable the bulk or spread bulk shot on the rig to break any surface tension on the line and side eye.
This allows the dropper shot to register freely on the floats 27mm long 1.2 diameter Hi Viz hollow tip.

The Chump can truly multi-task, being suitable for catching silver fish on canals and drains but really coming into its own when used for catching small to medium sized carp and F1’s in the warmer months.

 

 

 

 

 

 


HB Thick Chumps (New for 2010)

Available in the following sizes 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 & 1g with red or yellow tips.

The Thick Chump is the “big brother” of the Chump but it is built on solidly glued into its very fine grade closed cell foam body.

The Thick Chump offers all qualities found in its more delicate relative the Chump but incorporates a slightly stronger 0.7 diameter stainless steel stem ands a slightly longer and thicker 30mm long 2mm diameter Hi Viz hollow tip.

Although this material is extremely resistant to taking on water the float still gets the usual high quality HB finish as an extra precaution.

The Thick Chump performs best when used with heavier baits such as meat, corn and pellet.

The Thick Chumps performs equally as well when you use a bulk of small shot or an olivette with droppers and is a great pattern for fishing in deeper water and you need to get your bait down fast to the feeding area.

 

 

 

 

 


 

HB F1 Wire (New for 2010)

Available in the following sizes 4x10, 5x10 and 6x10 with red or yellow tips.

The HB F1 Wire is built on a long 0.6 diameter stainless steel stem.

As with the majority of the winter range the body is made from foam which has a similar density to a very light grade balsa but an amazing compressive strength of 218psi.

The floats body has a necked down portion just above the point where the stainless steel side eye is glued into the body and then a 25mm long 1.2 diameter Hi Viz hollow tip is fitted.

The floats long wire stem makes it possible to spread your shot out to intercept fish at most levels and on the drop making the HB F1 Wire perfect for those windy days where you need to constantly lift and drop baits such as small expanders and maggot when trying to catch F1’s.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


 

HB Shindig (New for 2010)

Available in three sizes 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4g with red or yellow tips.
RRP £2.20p each.

 

This Shindig is a “hybrid” between a pellet float and a paste float.

It is constructed on a 0.7 diameter Carbon stem which passes right through the oval high grade foam body and into the tough 1.2 diameter x 40mm long high visibility tip. 

One major bonus of this longer tip is that it also helps to bury the line above the float to minimise the effect of any wind or surface skim.

These features coupled with a stainless steel side eye give the float reliable strength whilst retaining sensitivity.

This pattern of float can be used in numerous situations but it comes into its own when used to present small balls of Paste when fishing for F1’s in warmer water.

The floats sensitivity also makes it possible to present pinkies and other smaller baits with total confidence.

 

 

 

 

 


 

HB Diddly Squatt (New for 2010)

Available in three sizes 0.1, 0.2 and 0.3g with red or yellow tips.

The Diddly Squat is another all round design for fishing commercial fisheries, canals and drains with light tackle and small baits such as bread punch, pinkie, bloodworm and squats and any other bait when a sensitive presentation is required.

However this float has built in strength due to the 0.7 diameter black Carbon stem which passes right through the floats classic rugby ball shaped body and enters the tough 27mm long 1mm diameter hollow high visibility plastic bristle.  

The Diddly Squatt is at its best used with a spread shotting pattern used with the shot getting progressively smaller towards the hook, creating a perfect natural bait fall and presentation.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 


HB F1 Guzzunder

Available in three sizes 4, 5, and 6 x no10, with a choice of red or yellow tips.

The Guzzunder is a float designed to offer ultra-fine sensitivity and durability when targeting F1’s with small soft pellets or maggot on the commercial Snake Lakes but this pattern has also found favour when fishing punch, pinky and squatts on your local canal.

This float is the “pellet pencil” principle taken a stage further in terms of sensitivity and response by adding a necked down portion beneath the tip.

The float is built on a 0.6 diameter flexible glass stem which passes right through the foam body to add strength and supports the 1mm diameter x 20mm long high viz hollow tip.

A stainless steel side eye is fitted into the body at the corner of the floats “neck” to allow the effect of the rigs dropper shot to be seen when lifting and dropping the bait for F1’s.

Best fished with a spread bulk and a couple of tiny dropper shot
