ROD POD LTD / ROD BOX

Company Profile

Mark Hunter (Owner)

UKMA: Can you explain briefly how you got into angling?

Mark Hunter (MH): Started fishing around the age of 8. I used to fish the thames with my dad. Got into carp fishing from the age of 15 back in the day when Savay lake was a day ticket water. Summer fishing was carp and in the winter we would go to Harefield lake after the pike.

UKMA: How did you start in the angling trade?

MH: By accident really , looking for a product that I couldn’t find so I put some money up and went from there.

UKMA: What made you decide to start your own business within the angling industry?

MH: Driving back from France I had around £2500 worth of rods/reels on the roof of the car , it was raining all the way back and I had a Halfords box next to my rods but they would not fit inside so I thought when I'm back I'll pop down and buy a bigger one. They didn’t have one , so after searching the net I purchased a ski box but this didn’t do what I wanted it to do either. So I started to look into the possibility of doing it myself .Also the box can be used in my garage to lock away my rods / reels when I'm not using them, keeping them safe with all the tackle theft that’s going on

UKMA: How long has the company been running?

MH: I started the company in March 2007 and we finally got the product to market in 2011. There was a lot of changes along the way and lot of sleepless nights

UKMA: How do you see the future with regards to company expansion over the forthcoming years?

MH: We have other products coming to the market in 2012, so we will take things as they come. We are in no hurry to expand overnight. We have a five year plan to work with and have just taken on retailers to sell the box as well as directly ourselves. We are talking to companies in Europe as well with a view to sell across the euro zone, North America and Canada , so we shall see what happens over the next twelve months or so.
