Top British Rod and Pole manufacturers Tri-Cast have a reputation for unrivalled build quality that is written into British angling folk law. This Rochdale based company are currently celebrating 25 years of building high quality carbon rods and poles for the British tackle trade and as part of the celebrations they have released a few new additions to the already critically acclaimed XRS Range. The one rod that has got our tongues wagging is the XRS Power Carp Wand 8ft, read on to find out how this compact feeder rod performed.

The XRS Power Carp Wand is the latest addition to the highly rated XRS Range of rods. Tri-Cast has produced a carbon blank that in their own words “defies belief” and to be totally honest, I would have to agree with them. This pencil slim blank that weighs in at a mere 125 grms, is so light you don’t realise you are holding it. Don’t be put of by the Carp Wands super slim appearance, although one of the slimmest blanks I have personally ever used for feeder fishing, this superbly designed mini power house produces enough power and control to land big double figure Carp.

This rod is designed with a new carbon cloth and incorporating the tried and tested and now legendary Tri-Cast XRS (Xtra Reinforced System). This production process gives the rod a full parabolic through action and an Anti-Locking Blank that performs like a dream and makes this quality rod the perfect tool for all commercial fishery and even small river light ledgering situations. Anything from the lightest of lead set-ups, small cage feeders through to small flat Method feeders (around 20g) can comfortably be cast accurately by this outrageous little rod.

As with all Tri-Cast XRS rods no corners are cut when it comes to furnishing the Power Carp Wand. Only the highest quality RDX guides and winch reel fitting are fitted as standard to complete the make up of this rod. The two-sectioned assembly of the Tri-Cast XRS Power Carp Wand makes transportation of the rod ready-assembled a very safe and easy task, which should give this superb piece of kit instant credibility among the match angling fraternities who regularly fish our numerous commercial fisheries up and down the country.

To give you perfect bite indication and recognition, the XRS Power Carp Wand is supplied with two push-over quiver tips that work in tune with the blank superbly. These are rated at 1oz/28g (yellow whippings) and 1.5oz/42g (purple whippings). When I tested the rod I used the 1.5oz tip which responded perfectly to every indication and take the resident Bream and Carp put my way during the session. For small River and Drain situations when small silvers are the target you can also buy a super-fine 0.5oz/14g tip (beige whippings) for an additional £19.99.

Final Thoughts

If you love playing big fish on light tackle then you’ll love this rod. It’s as thin as a pencil at the butt section yet strong enough to land a double figure carp when the going gets tough. I have to admit I was like a kid with a new toy using the XRS Power Carp Wand to land Bream up to 5lb and I totally enjoyed every minute of every fish I hooked into, the rod made my feeder fishing fun again. I can honestly say I haven’t enjoyed using a rod so much in years, even when playing a very upset 6lb common  under the tip at no point did I get any concerns about the rods overall capabilities.
In a nutshell, the Tri-Cast XRS Power Carp Wand 8ft is one of the if not the best parabolic, through action, short feeder rods I have personally ever used. This little rod oozes quality from every pore, making each fish you connect with a great all round angling experience rather than a mundane, lifeless chore, as some of the generic Asian carbon rod blanks used today seem to. I have no choice but to say “Tri-Cast have got it spot on” with this outrageously great fun feeder rod that will give anyone using it years of fish playing pleasure without breaking the bank.
