Team UKMA Profile

Barry Mason

I started fishing when I was 12 years old catch bags of perch and mixed silvers from the fenland drains with my mates using 50p worth of maggots for bait. Over the next couple of years I continued catching silvers and at the age of 14, I entered and won my fist junior match. Catching silvers was still great fun but I know wanted to catch bigger specimen carp and predators, so over the next couple of years I mixed it up combining standard silver fish disciplines with specimen carp sessions, which accounted for my PB carp of 22lb that still stands today. When the weather turned for the worst I would also have a dabble at predator fishing with my PB pike rocking the scales at 31lbs (not a bad CV for a junior angler). At the age of 16 I joined a local club and started fishing opens every other weekend and by the age of twenty, I had won numerous opens and two day festivals beating some of the best anglers in the area, which is something I’m this vary proud of.

I had established a bit of a reputation amongst local anglers as being the man to beat on many of the east midland and eastern regions commercial match waters with Decoy Lake being his home venue since 2005. This was the same year that I was privileged enough to established a angling relationship with top bait manufacturers Ringer Baits, with company MD Phil Ringer offering me a place in the Ringers team and I’ve been there ever since. I’m now fish winters leagues at Alders Farm Fishery as a member of team Tubertini Bagem and over the past three years we have won the winters League twice and was disappointed to have finished second this year but you cant win them all. I’m really looking forward to my fishing in 2012 with my target and dream being able to qualify for the final of a major event with qualification to the Fishomania final being my main goal.
