First Impressions

I’m no expert on the finer art of catching the slimy ones but I have had a few, including my UK PB of 42lb 4oz last year from Fenland Fisheries in Cambridgeshire. The one thing I immediately learned about these creatures is they will eat anything that gets in there way and the more it smells and the more of it there is, the better the results from these most ravenous creatures.

So when these samples of the HLB and HKG hook baits, glugs and boilies arrived courtesy of Kevin Perry, the man in charge at Katmandoo. My instant reaction was to get the box outside and open the containers at a reasonable distance from the kitchen door (this is highly recommended if you don’t wont to upset the better half) as I had been informed that these baits carry a memorable aroma, so I took heed.

Upon reading Kevin’s description of the HLB Hook Bait and Boilie samples, I was pleasantly surprised at the meaty aroma the mix of ingredients had produced, not overpoweringly strong but you would definitely notice the smell from a good distance. To compliment and add further attractant the Glug putting it politely stinks but I’m quite sure those ugly creatures the bait is designed for will find it irresistible.

The HKG was described by Kevin as having an “addictive aroma” well if you find the aroma of the waste bin at your local Italian fish market addictive then this is the bait for you. I’ve become quite tolerable over the years to nauseous smells but this is some proper minging. I have shown this to numerous predator anglers who have informed me that it was “proper stuff” so who am I to disagree.

As we speak the trees are in full bloom and the time is now right for putting these unique baits and glugs through there paces as the resident cats on my local waters start to show signs that they are on the feed. Watch this space for our full on the bank fields test which will hopefully be on line in the next couple of weeks (obviously, all things fishy permitting)
