Sheltons of Peterborough
Good Friday Open Day 2011

Many top names from the bait and tackle industries and their ranks of sponsored anglers headed to Peterborough as Sheltons yet again opened their doors for the now annual Good Friday Open day. This well supported event by both the trade and angling public, enables us mere mortals to speak to and get top tips and advice from some of the biggest names in game before spending your hard earned readies. In attendance this year you had Daiwa Sports with Bob Roberts at the helm giving his secrets to all who asked as well as running the free to enter Guess the weight Daiwa competition which had some fantastic tackle prizes. Next to these you had the Korda team with Darrel Peck answering the questions and demonstrating the rigs that have brought him so much success over the past few years. Shimano were also in attendance and represented by Jan Porter who was kept very busy by the anglers visiting the event.

Dave Mills and Gary “Milky” Lowe fronted the Trakker stand and the UKMA highly recommend having a look at their new flotation weighing sling which has only been available for a couple of weeks and already sold out. In the terminal tackle area of the shop, Avid Carp and Solar Tackle were also in attendance demonstration their new terminal tackle and accessories to all who cared to view. The world of Baits was well supported with Nash Baits Gary Bayes taking time to deal with all the public’s enquiries and Leigh Hemsley making personalised Pop Ups for anyone who wanted them, which was nice touch. Just around the corner you had SonuBaits with Company front man and top all-round specialist angler Ian Day and Match fishing legend Andy Findley demonstrating the new products for 2011 which includes a Tiger Nut range that will be featured on the UKMA pages very soon.

Final Thoughts

Since Shelton’s of Peterborough re-vamped their shop and re-opened over 3 years ago this event has developed into a pilgrimage for anglers and the tackle and bait industries from all areas of the sport. Rather than dealing with the hustle and bustle of the big shows you have an opportunity to speak to the stars and buy tackle with piece of mind that if things do go wrong at least you can take it straight back. This is not an angling show more of shopping trip with all the answers, and a very enjoyable way of shopping. With a steady flow of customers and plenty of floor space, this is without question a more comfortable way of meeting the stars and buying what you need and as a Brucie bonus you can win yourself a top bait and tackle prize by enter the a raffle on your way in, definitely a good way of wasting a few hours on a bank holiday.
