I’ve been asked to contribute a short introduction to Lymm Angling Club. As Press and Public Relations Officer for the club, it’s a task I’m only too pleased to complete and give you an idea of who we are and what we do; if you are interested in being part of a progressive, friendly club, then read on!
Based in the heart of the North West, Lymm Angling Club boasts over 1600 members and a rich history since its formation in the late 1940’s. Centred around the Cheshire/Lancashire borders, the club owns and leases a wide variety of waters to cater for everyone from beginners to more accomplished anglers, both river rovers and those who prefer a more sedentary approach.
The ownership of flagship water Lymmvale is something which the club is understandably proud of; residing within the depths of this tranquil oasis are many double figure tench for which the water is rightly famous throughout the country, huge catfish, carp, and many other worthy species. Not only home to some simply stunning fish, Lymmvale currently holds the British record for golden tench and orfe so is certainly a venue which merits its place on our club card.
The club has many stretches of prime river fishing; the mighty Severn around Shrewsbury, the rivers Dane, Bollin, Weaver, Vrynwy and Dee all have a place in our members map book and give access to some of the finest barbel, chub and grayling in the UK. Many of these areas also provide pike fishing for specimens reaching upwards of 30lbs, and good numbers of carp, roach and bream in many places.
For the carper, smaller waters such as Belmont and Beech Pools are classed as the ‘runs’ waters and regularly produce multiple catches of fish to 28lbs to a single angler. Harder waters such as Shakerley Mere, Tabley Moat, Chester Lake and Wrinehill offer the chance of a 40lbs+ fish for those prepared to find them, but all are fantastic places to sit and lose a few hours as you take time to relax.
Over 17 miles of canal angling are available to those who prefer this type of challenge. Macclesfield, Llangollen and Shropshire Union canals are all potential venues for the match or silver fish angler on some of the most renowned cuts currently offered to club anglers. With marinas, bridges, locks and wides, the canals merit a range of different tactics in the quest for success.
The club committee seek to obtain new waters constantly, to improve our current portfolio and sustain growth as well as ensure that Lymm Angling Club remains financially self sufficient. Scheduled netting and maintenance programmes guarantee excellent water quality, healthy fish stocks and thriving fauna at all our sites, and regular bailiff activity ensures the safety of our members, the integrity of the club and the protection of assets. Lymm now have a forward thinking team constantly seeking to gain benefits for members by entering into agreements with suitable organisations and companies such as Devon based Pallatrax, Bolton Bait Company 1Toners and several other established partners offering a wide range of opportunities, discounts and advantages to club anglers.
Lymm AC has links to a number of National angling magazines, often chosen by recognised anglers including Iain Macmillan, Gary Newman and even Matt Hayes as a place to construct features for publication. Often featuring in weekly periodical ‘Carp-Talk’ and the Warrington Guardian and in many online media, we give our anglers every chance of being ‘famous’, even if only for a short time!
Value for money, ever more important in the present financial climate, is of paramount concern for the club Directors. Fees for membership currently range from just £10 for juniors to £80 for full senior tickets which include night fishing and an accompanying spouse and up to 2 children, so it really is a ‘family club’! An application fee may apply for new joiners, but at only £35, it offers outstanding appeal if you are looking for a friendly club in the heart of the country.
