UKMA: Can you explain briefly how you got into angling?

Colin Bunn (CB): Started going fishing with my Dad from the age of 2/3, couldn’t fish myself at that age but i was told i would cry my eyes out if my Dad went without me.

UKMA: How did you start in the angling trade?

CB: I used to promote a chain of 3 fishing tackle shops in Birmingham and make boilies and base mixes for them as well as advise on tackle purchases for the shops. I then found out about the big cats on the Ebro and fished for them for 10 years personally before making CatMaster tours so everyone was able to catch huge cats with my help and experience. I also started CatMaster Tackle supplying catfish tackle that was never before available on the market.

UKMA: What made you decide to start your own business within the angling industry?

CB: I took someone to fish for the cats in Spain who swore that they would not tell anyone else where it was if i would take them. After taking them, they started advertising their own tours to the Ebro without any real experience of the river and lying to me. I was so angry that i started my own tours in competition with them and have never looked back.

UKMA: How long has the company been running?

CB: 10 years +

UKMA: How do you see the future with regards to company expansion over the forthcoming years?

CB: I don’t really want to expand the company more than what it is now. We have 3 fishing guides working for the company keeping a very personal touch to our tours. I think having more guides will take that personal touch away and then the money will become the most important thing and not the anglers. To us the most important thing is to make the anglers holiday special and hopefully they will be back for more.
